Trump may win because no one can understand what Biden is saying.

Anyone with any sense should be asking “are Trump and Biden the best they can do?”

What the Texan sees in Trump’ s tanned visage is completely different to how we perceive him, which is a preeeing, narcissist but one able to manipulate millions of doom brains that sees USA as somehow the panacea for the worlds problems .
I’d suggest when Don pops up on our screens, stomachs are turned .

I’ve spoken before of my admiration and borderline obsession with the life and beliefs of Socrates. Many people don’t know this but before he was putting in those amazing performances for Brazil in the 1970s and 80’s he actually moonlighted as an Ancient Greek philosopher.

If you have two minutes here’s a good read on his thoughts on democracy and the folly of letting any old idiot have the vote which will inevitably lead to demagoguery. It rings as true now as it no doubt did two and a half millennia ago.

The current Tory party are definitely demagogues, as was Tony Bliar with his "things can only get better" election success that all went very bad and put us on the road to record deficit and debt that led us here.

Thing is, Joesus, that Triree to Samos would be mostly powered by people tied to the oars and if the ship went down those rowers would definitely not escape whereas those on the top deck had at least a chance, that situation is magnified 100 times by todays's "Captains" who won't just survive but will sail away with a fortune that usee to belong to those rowing the ship.
Thats where we are today, todays "politicians" are leaving those of us who power the ship to go down with it while they frantically scoop up as much as they can carry or throw to their rich friends in the dinghy.
We are getting left behind by these demagogues in part because so many people have stopped voting; the politicians feel like they can get away with anything because no one is watching.

Yes the meaning behind the trireme to Samos analogy is obviously that if there were skilled seamen in charge of the ship they would be able to guide it to safety and the people under their charge would be alright. Whereas selecting an unskilled guy to put in charge of the ship because he’s popular and says all the right things will inevitably lead to disaster.

Socrates was of course ultimately put to death by the very same idiots who would have gone down with the ship in his analogy in a blaze of incompetence. One of the greatest minds of his era, of any era, the Godfather of critical thought. A man who provided logic and rational to all his arguments rather than blind faith or unfounded belief. A man who knew he knew nothing.

Those idiots are still running the show today two and a half millennia later.

Two-tiered system of justice strikes again.

Trump keeps pulling further ahead in the polls, and this obvious example of corruption might even help a little more. But the USA is so permanently screwed if Trump doesn't win by enough that they can't rig the outcome.

I really don’t get it.

You could I suppose argue (if you can put to one side the fact that he’s clearly unfit for office) that his record on the economy since the pandemic has been exceptional.

Ironically, this is what Trump supporters kept coming back to - you may not like his personality but look at what he’s done for the economy/jobs etc.

Perhaps this is just where we are. It doesn’t matter who the person is, it just matters what they represent.

A lot of people think it was a good thing that Trump didn't send troops or start more foreign wars but as the evidence mounts it looks like Trump is more along the lines of encouraging WW3 than keeping a lasting peace.

A lot of Americans don't agree that Trump incited insurrection, a lot outside the USA agree but is there a more divisive figure than the Donald? And division creates arguments.

The man who used more drone attacks than anyone else in history...that man.

The man that said the US embassy should move to Jerusalem and thus emboldening Bibi and the Israeli Right ... that man.

The man who fellates autocrats around the world , who also believes that the US President (namely himself previously) has TOTAL IMMUNITY for ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.

Although his polemic is unnecessarily inflammatory the basic point is absolutely correct. If every member has committed to pay X amount annually as condition of membership but have failed to do so over a number of years why should that membership and benefits of membership still apply?

He is absolutely right to insist countries fulfil he commitments they signed up to. But as usual he has gone way too far in doing it.

Exactly.

How hard is it to say “if a county doesn’t fulfill its financial obligations, they will not be guaranteed unequivocal support from the US.”

Why does he have to turn everything into a bin fire?

Yes - he is acting exactly like a mob boss running a protection racket.

His use of the phrase ‘encouraging’ Russia means he is again totally unfit for holding public office.

Trump is lying. No one pays USA for their support. Each country puts a proportion of their budget into the military. This should be 2% of the annual budget. Some do more some do less. This could vary year on year.

As one pundit said it is not a golf club where you pay membership. Others talked off mafia protection rackets where you pay the hood for protection.

Serious slackers will get attention but not by Trump. He is a bullshitter bar none and would have been music to the years of Putin who performed pathetically when "speaking to the US people".

Trump might end up Invading Canada. Who is going to stop him?. We have order by rules and mutual respect.
