Away FA Cup Draw No Surprise
Away FA Cup Draw No Surprise

Town manager Roy Keane said he wasn’t surprised at getting an away draw in the third round of the FA Cup having been given two successive home ties in the Carling Cup. The Blues travel to Premier League champions Chelsea for the second time in three seasons in January, their fourth successive away tie.

Keane said: “Another away draw! We’ve had two home draws in a row, so we weren’t going to get a hat-trick one, were we? That’s a long way away.

"They’re having a bit of a dip at the moment, although to be fair in January Lampard will be fit. I’m looking forward to that!”

The Blues boss says the game will give the coffers a boost, perhaps notably at the start of the transfer window: “You’re always looking at the finances. We didn’t really have a very good FA Cup run last year with games at Blackpool and Southampton.

“I don’t know what kind of money the club makes, but it all helps if you’re trying to add to the squad and I think, to be fair, the owner’s put a lot of money into the club over the last few years.”
