Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain welcomed by bemused fans
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain welcomed by bemused fans

No winners, no experience, no leaders...these are the words that should have been ringing in the ears of Arsene Wenger as another season came to a disappointing close in May.

Yet, what we have seen so far, and we must try to remember that the transfer window has not closed, is worryingly familiar. Jenkinson, a promising but totally unproven defender for a miniscule fee. Now we have two wide attackers for a combined total of over £20 million and netiher have any experience of the Premier League. Arsenal fans will be pleased that Wenger is continuing to invest in the future but only if he balances this with investment in the present.

Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a great player but when Wenger seems to be so resistent to spending 8 figure sums on defensive leaders that we desperately need, his exuberent spending on young attackers understandably frustrates many Arsenal fans.

This is not a signing that we need for this season and if more experienced performers do not arrive before September, the number of fans questioning Wenger's methods will dramatically increase.
