Wenger lies lead to Tottenham style frenzy
Wenger lies lead to Tottenham style frenzy

Chu Young, Santos and Mertesacker are all good players but they are not better than what we have already and they are not players who are in huge demand so why has Wenger lied for the whole transfer window?

Arsene Wenger has constantly reeled out the excuse that he cannot find the right players and that he will only buy players that are better than what we have already. Yet, we are now close to completing our transfer dealings for the summer and the players arriving are all of a good quality but none of them appear to be better than Vermaelen, WIlshere or Van Persie. If these were the players that Wenger wanted then why were they not bought earlier in the window when we needed them. We have had a disastrous August but, in some ways, we have got away with poor management in the summer by still qualifying for the Champions League.

There appear to people in the Arsenal hierarchy who are proving to be a stumbling block to our transfer dealings. It now appears that we knew all along that Fabregas and Nasri were going to leave and yet it took all summer and even our less profile transfers such as Traore, Bendtner and Almunia are all leaving in the final few days of the window. The whole thing has been a mess and suggests our hard negotiating may be saving some money but it has left us woefully underprepared.

There are a number of possible explanations but it most boil down to the boards failure to sign the players that Wenger originally wanted. If the players we have ended up with were his number one targets then we would have signed them in May or June as there would appear to be little competition for their signatures. The manager has since been taking the flak from the fans and attempting to cover our failings in the transfer window for the whole summer and the feeling around the club has led to a last gasp plunge into the market to bolster the squad. We just have to hope that they can provide the quality that we desperately need.
