Managerial candidates suggest a bright future for Arsenal
Managerial candidates suggest a bright future for Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has had such an influence over the development of the club that our future after his departure, whenever that may be, has been very hard to imagine.

Unlike some managers in north London he has been selfless enough in his career to secure the future of the club so we know that we will be financially secure but it is his ability to develop footballers that has meant we have been able to continue to sign some of the best young players in the world. When he leaves there is a danger that we will no longer have that attraction as a club but with financial fair play rules due to be in force by the time Wenger goes, we should still be in a strong position to attract players and, crucially, the best managers.

The Mirror has suggested five extremely employable candidates and this is because of the job that Arsene Wenger has done. He has built a club with enormous potential, in a style that everyone in the world admires and any new manager would feel that they have the resources to compete and a league in which to challenge themselves.

Pep Guardiola has proved that he can build a team to attack and defend as a unit but he inherited some of the best players in the world and has often hinted that he will soon look for a new challenge as arguably he has already achieved everything at Barcelona. He would continue Wenger's philosophy and has the reputation to attract the world's best players.

Laurent Blanc has also been suggested and he is one of the brightest young managers in Europe. Again he is someone that would continue Wenger's style but with a more organised approach to defending which is an intriguing prospect, particularly given what has happened this season.

Dennis Bergkamp has also been linked but as Arseblog points at, his refusal to fly could have a terminal impact on any ambitions to manage at the highest level. Within the club Steve Bould is proving his ability to bring on young talent but he may be well served gaining some managerial experience before he is entrusted with the reigns at Arsenal.

Obviously this is all pure speculation at the moment and Wenger's contract runs until 2014 so is not of immediate concern. But it is reassuring to see that we are still linked with the best managerial talent in the world despite the doomsday scenarios that are being thrown around but certain sections of the Arsenal support. Mistakes have been made by the current management but the most important aspect, the long term future of the club, has been secured and success will never be out of reach for Arsenal.
