Arsenal 2-1 Bolton: Arshavin powers gunners to another quarter final
Arsenal 2-1 Bolton: Arshavin powers gunners to another quarter final

For the ninth season in succession Arsenal will be in the Carling Cup quarter final thanks to Andrey Arshavin's best performance of the season.

The attacker has performed indifferently for the majority of his spell at the Emirates but he took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half and propelled Arsenal forward. He fired the equaliser in from an angle with a fizzing drive across the goal before setting up Park Chu Young who curled home an excellent finish, evoking memories of Thierry Henry.

The South Korean striker may never be even half the player of Henry but he showed superb energy to lead the line and proved his quality in front of goal. Despite making only his second appearance last night our new number nine showed that he has a lot to offer and if he can learn to avoid the offside trap he should supersede Marouanne Chamakh as Robin van Persie's deputy.

It was an impressive victory as we had a very inexperienced team and Bolton were solid opponents. They took the lead early in the second half after Emmanuel Frimpong was dispossessed by Fabrice Muamba and the former gooner played a one-two before firing into the roof of the net.

It was a wake-up call to Frimpong who has become a fans favourite overnight. Similarly Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain didn't have the best game, justifying Wenger's reluctance to play the youngsters more this season.

Another positive result for the Arsenal and with Thomas Vermaelen also making a successful return to the first team, we go into Saturday's game at Stamford Bridge in decent shape.
