Liverpool v Arsenal: Pride restored
Liverpool v Arsenal: Pride restored
Saturday, 3rd Mar 2012 10:51

After last week's faith restoring game, we have the chance to cement our Champions League credentials at Anfield today.

The ludicrous timing of the international matches during the week will leave us with very poor preparation for today's lunchtime kick off but the signs are that we will still be able to field the same starting eleven that demolished Spurs at the Grove.

Robin van Persie only played 45 minutes at Wembley and a minor groin strain should not prevent Wenger from selecting our star man to start today and against Milan on Tuesday.

Thomas Vermaelen played 90 minutes for Belgium despite carrying an ankle injury following Scott Parker's spiteful challenge last Sunday. He should still start but given his injury record the next week will be a real test for the centre back.

Elsewhere Rosicky, Benayoun and Song should all be fit enough to play and Wenger will be hoping that we can somehow show the same energy levels that saw us tear through a bewildered Tottenham side. This season has taught us that anything could happen today but a win could see us race through to May which would be in stark contrast to last season's collapse.

Arsenal fans know that we are having a good week when every mention of Arsenal in the papers is automatically prefixed with 'The' in our minds. The Arsenal have the opportunity to highlight Liverpool's mediocrity today and if we are at 100%, a back line that may contain a weary Jamie Carragher should be breached on more than one occasion. As ever, the only worry is whether our own defence will stand strong. The high pressing game that made a welcome return in the second half last week gives our defence much better protection and every Arsenal fan will be hoping the same Arsenal side turns up today so that we can have at least another few days reading about The Arsenal with a spring in our step.

Prediction 3-1 to The Arse
