Former Swans goalkeeper Willy Gueret insists that revenge was not on his mind as he saved the crucial penalty

Gueret saved Jason Scotland's penalty during the shoot-out - the only miss from the spot - to send the Dons to Wembley on March 30 where they will play either Morecambe or Grimsby.   And whilst many would believe that it could be extra satisfying for Gueret because of his release last summer, the goalkeeper insists that was not the case.

Gueret spoke up in the Western Mail and said “It’s wasn’t about facing Swansea and being desperate to do well, I just wanted to do my job. I didn’t want to get revenge over Swansea, now that I’m a Dons player. I wanted to play the best I could just as I would have if I’d been in a Swans shirt.

“It’s never easy to play against your old club, but I had a good time when I was at Swansea City. I have some great friends there and my family in law are from Swansea, so I don’t have any bad feeling for the club at all.

“It was a great night and I think overall the best team won, we deserved to win it and we can look forward to Wembley now.

“I wanted to have a good game and try to keep another clean sheet, unfortunately, that didn’t happen, but, apart from the goal, I didn’t have much to do.

“Paul Ince said well done to the lads at half-time and told us to keep going because he knew we could get the win. We’d defended very well and we expected Swansea to give us a very hard game.

“We knew we would have to keep on our toes for 90 minutes and that’s what we did fantastically well.

“As a goalkeeper, you are always happy to make the saves in a penalty shoot-out because if you do, everyone calls you the hero.

“It’s not easy for the goalkeeper, but, when you make the save, it is a very good feeling.

“I wanted to save two or three for the boys because they had done so well during the game.”
