Second year referee Chris Sarginson will take charge of a Dale game for the fourth time when Bradford visit Spotland on Tuesday. Earlier this term he was the man in the middle for the Carling Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, while last season he was in charge of our 1-1 draw at Lincoln and the 1-0 win at Macclesfield.
Both last season’s games had home supporters in uproar at some of Mr Sarginson’s decision-making, although they amused Dale fans greatly.
At Lincoln he sent then-Lincoln manager Peter Jackson to the stands for over-zealous protests.
Yes, we know that is hard to believe, but Jacko was waving his arms about like a madman and Mr Sarginson was having none of it.
At Macclesfield he awarded Dale a dubious penalty, from which they won the game, and then had to listen to the warbling of Keith Alexander as he left the field at half-time.
Later, of course, good old Keith ‘bit’ at the taunts from Dale fans, which made it a great afternoon out.
This season Chris has refereed 23 games, showing 64 yellow cards and six red. One of his games was bury’s 3-3 draw with Notts County in November, which prompted ‘the slump starts here’ thread from good old robshaker.
