Taking a look at what the reasons could be behind Ferrie's decision to leave

The news yesterday follows endless speculation over a six month period of Ferrie's happiness at Swansea and somewhere in all that speculation no doubt the truth has come out in terms of what is really happening.

To date the Swans have had just one confirmed bid - Derby County at £500,000 - but there is speculation that Reading, Sunderland, Charlton and others are all ready to jump into the mix with the club putting a £2m price tag on the midfielders head - some of which will go to fund the sell on clause that is rumoured to be there from a Den Haag perspective.

The key from here is to see where Ferrie goes and for what reasons.   Is it purely a case of chasing the buck or is it a case of wanting to play at the highest possible level to further his career.   When he joined last June, Roberto admitted that Ferrie was possibly using the Swans as a stepping stone to the Premiership - he said at the time "He's been clear that he's coming here to play in the Premiership - either to get Swansea there or to use us as a stepping stone."

And with promotion last season there seemed to be optimism that Ferrie would stay around to sample another season at the Swans and try and become as influential at that level as he was in League One.

The rumours though would not go away - we have seen stories of his girlfriend/wife not being able to settle in the area and a desire to return back home or even just to return somewhere where Amsterdam becomes a little more convenient to travel to.   We have heard whispers that there are other problems in the background that could lead for a desire to move and of course there has been the speculation that other clubs were showing an interest.

The player himself tried to talk down the speculation but even then was hinting that he could be looking to be on his way when he said “You never know what will happen in football,

“When you don’t know what is on offer you can never decide anything for certain."

But now he has decided and we have to see what happens next.  The club have put a very high valuation on his head and it will be interesting to see what kind of value that his potential suitors have for the same player.   And whilst that is happening Roberto will be out there looking for the replacements for Robbo and Ferrie.

And with his track record behind him there is every reason to believe that he can do it again.
