Ashley Williams looks back on his hardest test against Holland

Tasked with keeping Real Madrid striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy off the scoresheet, Williams did himself no harm despite Wales going down to a 2-0 defeat against the Euro 2008 favourites.

Goals either side of half time sent Wales spinning to defeat but - despite the scoreline - there were positives to be taken and belief that Wales are still progressing as they look ahead to the World Cup 2010 campaign.

Speaking to the official site after the game, the Swans latest recruit said "It was a real test for the team and for myself personally - it was the hardest game in my life.

"It was a real eye opener for me because you know you can't give someone like van Nistelrooy half a second and after the game I was so tired because of the level of concentration needed.

"But that will be good for me and the rest of the young lads because that's what we needed.

"With no disrespect, it's all very good playing and beating sides like Luxembourg and Iceland, but we also have to play top-class teams like Holland and show we can produce.

"But I felt it went well for me because I felt a lot fitter than I have in the last couple of games and it will do me the world of good.

"And, although we lost and we didn't get a lot of possession, on another day we could have even nicked a draw so we shouldn't be too disappointed."
