People In Gloucs Houses - A Bottle Job Ahead?

Home >Story Index> People In Gloucs Houses - Bottle Job Ahead?

For the first time in a number of years we have a manager who is not afraid to stand up and ask a few questions, and from press reports of late, in my humble opinion, that is a real quality. How many times under the John Hollins regime did we plead and beg for the manager to have a bit of bottle and face up to Neil Mcclure and the board. He had problems we all could see but the Hollins nonsense wagon just spouted the party line as we stuttered and fell in to decline, and very nearly permanent collapse. But in Addison and Nicholas we have a pair of leaders who want to know their destiny very quickly, and the new owners should now be in a position to honour that call on Friday afternoon when both sides get round the table to talk. Both men have saved the club on the pitch against extreme circumstances, and in the last two weeks have virtually saved us from relegation, when, lets be honest all of us were getting very twitchy.

I was having a few beers with some Swans fans in Gloucester last week when the talk got round to the managers position. All admitted Addison and Nicholas has done extremely well, but offered a number of valid points on next seasons alternatives, and the name of John Cornforth was not far away from anyone's lips. I suppose a dream team of Cornforth and Cusack would be most welcome for a lot of fans, but we must make that decision quickly and honestly, not just for the sakes of the current regime, but indeed for the players so they too know exactly where they stand. So many have contracts up for renewal, and looking at those players, half will not get new contracts, buts that the way it is. In the first instance we need the right management team in place, to make decisions on those players.

The problem is - Who gets the shout ? Addison and Nicholas, or indeed that dream team of Cornforth and Cusack. Either way both shouts are far better to the ramblings of John Hollins, so things are a lot rosier on the management front. And it's taken me a few years to say that.

My only other point this time round is the Vetch Field answer phone system ! Why two weeks after we have played Kidderminster Harriers is the game still being advertised on the " Press 1 " for latest matches button ! Everyone knows the telephone is the first way many people contact the club, fans and investors alike. And they will form a view very quickly on the professionalism at The Vetch Field by the push of a button - Quite literally. Come on, lets get the basics done properly, and maybe then we can move on and put aside the unprofessional way the club has been run in the past four years. But it seems the demons of the past have not all gone, maybe there is room for a few more Vetch Field announcements before the season is done ?

And if it means mistakes and poor PR like this are done away with - Then so be it.
