| One leg will be held in Cardiff and the return leg at Swansea. Today (Sunday) was the 1st attempt at training for the teams. This tale is true only the names have been changed to protect the innocent. The day started quietly as team members had an opportunity to watch England v Sweden match on television before venturing to (the secret)
training ground. This was the 1st session of basic training for the team. On arriving at the training ground (a bit early) we noticed the convenience of the pitch to the well equipped bar, a definite plus for after training discussions but a little distracting due to clarity of the sound of the pints being pulled. Most of the team turned up dressed in an assortment of styles from shorts and tops to full tracksuits (a better bunch of gypos you could not have wished for). Recco arrived with his car loaded with equipment (footballs, jumpers for goal posts etc.)
The two teams were soon sorted and training commenced with personal warm ups followed by a match of 50 minutes each way. unfortunately the goalkeepers were unavailable today so big Murphy filled one of the goal mouths with his giant presence while I filled the other. (Have you seen the Pepsi ad?) In the first 10 minutes several shots were fired at the goals at both ends. Murphy's snarl was enough to put the fear of god into any premiership striker. Only Garyjack (who had an occasional twitch every time he heard someone pouring a pint) prevailed putting three balls into the back of the net. This he achieved with assistance from the mighty quiff master- Recco and the lean mean Jam. whilst at the other end I managed to deflected some wicked shots (at the goal) from the king of speed Nomad with assistance from Stu (under the arm) and Mike (chopper) Lloyd, earning myself the coveted title of Dave the cat which quickly changed to Dave the Rat but for the life of me I can't think why? After 15 minutes both goalkeepers came off allowing others to try their luck against the mighty bombardment laid down by the opposing strikers. At halftime with the score at 4 - 3 Reeco had arranged for the team to be infiltrated by youth players, motivating the knackered teams into action. Teams were readjusted to allow for the new influx of players and the youngsters soon had the upper hand forcing the opposition into defensive mode. This is where chopper Lloyd came to the front and took 2 of them out on the trot, although he still claims they were diving? Meanwhile Recco challenges became more verbal although clean and the match ended with a final score of 7-8. Man of the match has to go to stu, (under the arm) for his fitness if nothing else, at 51 he outran even Reecos youngsters.
