Cardiff City Fans To Be Banned From Derby Game?

Today's News Of The World reports that Cardiff City fans could be banned from the derby at the Liberty on November 7

The paper backs the claim up with nothing concrete from Swansea City but claims that the escalating police cost of what has been a bubble trip is putting the Swans off from inviting Cardiff fans to this season's game.

Two electric atmospheres at the Liberty and one at Ninian Park last season made for three excellent games between the two sides which resulted in two league draws and a Carling Cup victory for the Swans.

The paper states that it cost the Swans more than £30,000 to police the fixtire last season and it claims that sources have told them that the figure could as much as TREBLE this time around after confrontations at the last two games.

No ban can be placed on away fans without the permission of the Football League but the paper believes that discussions have already taken place between the two sides - something that Swansea have refused to confirm.

Vince Alm of Cardiff Supporters Club said "I think both sets of supporters would be disappointed if this does go ahead.

"It would be a backward step - it means the hooligans have won.  There's only a small minority out of 20,000 people who look to cause trouble.

"Having played each other three times last season I also think the edge will have gone off the games this season.

"I'd be surprised if you saw anything like the same scenes as last season."
