Stephen Dobbie labels the last three months as the best three months of his career

Dobbie secured himself a second successive promotion when Swansea City beat Reading on Monday to take their place in next season's Premier League.

Having been there 12 months previous with Blackpool, Dobbie came back to the Swans when his loan spell ended and now has his own chance at the top flight as the Swans make the step up.

He told the Western Mail “The last three months have been the best of my career. I’ve been scoring goals, setting them up and helping the team

“I one point I wasn’t playing and he (Rodgers) ended up changing his formation to incorporate me and that gave me the confidence I needed and I want to do my best for him.

“A few years ago I was at a crossroads.

“At Queen of the South I had come back from a hernia operation, I was a bit overweight. I probably enjoyed my holiday too much and it was probably my last chance to get my head down and work hard.

“I did that and showed the other side of my game that people didn’t think I had.

“I hope I’ve proved a couple of people wrong."

And Dobbie now has set his sights on a Scotland call up and added “It is something that I would love, even to play just one game for the national team.

“I know a few players got their first cap at around 28 and then managed to stay there.

“Hopefully the manager there has been watching me and seeing that I have been playing well.

“It would be something to tell the grandchildren. I’m a proud Scotsman and a huge fan, I watch all the games and it would be a dream.

“It was difficult celebrating with Blackpool because I didn’t really know what was happening with my future.

“The guys were celebrating and thinking about playing Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, but I had things to sort out at Swansea.

“Now to go to places like Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford and Anfield will be fantastic for Swansea.

“It’s a great feeling to know you are going to be in the Premier League next year.

“You don’t really get a lot of highs in your career, so to play in two finals at Wembley and win both of them is something special.

“To come away with two medals is a dream come true for me. I am looking forward to the break and then getting down to work.

“Once I started working with the gaffer I knew we would be there or thereabouts because of the way we play.

“The way we play and the style the gaffer’s brought in, attacking wise, people want to see that. And we’ve had one of the strongest defences in the league as well.

“We are going to have to probably bring in a few players, a few might leave, but that’s part and parcel of football.

“We are all ready for it.

“The club will be sensible. I don’t think they’ll be going and getting in on any debt, even though we’ve just won such a big prize.

“We’ll just be trying to keep the team in the Premier League this year.

“I’m looking forward to playing everyone. I saw Blackpool do it, all the boys, and I loved watching it.

“I’m so proud to be part of the first Welsh side to reach the Premier League. We’ve been on a great journey.”
