Pochettino Commits To Saints
Thursday, 16th Jan 2014 15:21

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that he will be staying at St Mary's Stadium to end speculation that is rife in the media.

The news came ahead of this afternoons press conference when Pochettino emerged from talks with Katharina Liebherr to announce via the Club's twitter feed.

"I am staying as #SaintsFC manager. I have a professional responsibility to everyone at the Club and the fans."

This is the news that everyone wants to hear, but the big question is whether this will be a long term decision or whether he will review his future once the season has ended.

If Pochettino continues to revive Saints fortunes after a poor run over December then his stock will rise and any overtures from supposed bigger clubs may be hard for him to resist given his close relationship with former Chairman Nicola Cortese.

But for the short term at least the Argentinian is staying and this will bring some stability to the club and enable it to sail some stormy waters ahead with a squad and manager who know each other.

Fingers crossed he's as good as his word until the end of the season at least. Looking forward to hearing all the stories about how nasty Cortese was now that he has gone - Le Tiss said we would find out about them once Cortese had left.

It's time to get behind the team and kathaina. We have to show her how much her family means to Southampton. We can only effect what happens now to Southampton not in the future. Her farther saved our club and invested big time. We owe her big time. As I said let's effect now not the future. As Nicola would of said ; let's do it the Southampton way

Looks like Rickie will be off soon though, but that would probably have happened anyway. At least he won't be "leading a player exodus."

Pochettino made it clear that no player would be sold, albeit none that the club didn't want to sell. They would surely want to keep Lambert, at least until the end of the season.

Re the press conference, I had assumed it was going to go out live, as it was the highest profile football story yesterday. I also thought that it would have been an opportunity for Katharina Liebherr to introduce herself. She remains a mysterious, enigmatic figure.
