Swansea have had a strong start to the season, having won three games from five so far, they currently sit in 5th place following a loss to Southampton last weekend. Sunderland are going into this one on the back of a 0-0 stalemate at Burnley last week, the Black Cats are sitting in 17th in the Premier League and have yet to find a win this season, drawing four and losing just one. The head to head record between these two teams is in Sunderland’s favour, with Gus Poyet’s side winning twelve out of the 28 matches between them, Swansea have won eight and the remaining eight ended up in draws. 888sport are currently offering the Welsh side as favourites at 5/3, with a draw unlikely at 23/10 and Sunderland to win at 7/4.

Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is the stand out player for his side so far this season, the Iceland midfielder has covered the second most ground out of any player in the league this season, with a staggering 61 km travelled in his five games for Swansea. Sigurdsson has an average speed of 7.9 km/h and leads his teams goal scoring charts this season with three strikes. The 25 year old bosses the midfield as well, with 152 accurate passes, five tackles won, four clearances and eight interceptions, as well as notching an excellent 4 assists.

Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell will be hoping to continue his run of good form this weekend, the English midfielder has been a regular in the Sunderland line up this season and has scored equal most goals in the Sunderland squad, and has 110 accurate passes to his name. The 23 year old has covered 44 km this season and reached speeds of up to 32.5 km/h. Midfielder Lee Cattermole has covered the most ground in the Sunderland team this season, having travelled 52 km in five matches, the 26 year old has played every minute for his side this season, and has an impressive defensive record, having won eleven tackles and twelve clearances.

Swansea’s goal scoring record is much to be desired this season, and the Welsh side has already scored eight goals in five games. This is down, in large parts, to an impressive start to the season for Nathan Dyer, who has three goals in five games. The English midfielder has attempted fourteen crosses and sixteen dribbles whilst covering an impressive 40 km and reaching a top speed of 34.1 km/h. Dyer is 4/1 to score anytime against Sunderland, with favourite Wilfried Bony at 9/5 to score at any point in the match. Bony is yet to score this season, but has had twelve scoring attempts and assisted one goal.

Poyet’s side have conceded just six goals this season, and this defensive record is in large part down to the impressive performances of defender Patrick Van Aanholt. The Dutchman has won an incredible 21 tackles this season, eighteen clearances and sixteen interceptions. Van Aanholt’s team mate and England international Wes Brown deserves much of the credit too, as he has the highest number of clearances in the Black Cats squad, with 36. The Englishman also has six blocks and 7 interceptions to his name, and has covered an impressive 44 km.
