Wanyama Reveals Arsenal Desire
Wednesday, 3rd Jun 2015 23:35

Victor Wanyama has spoken in his native Kenya about his desire to join Arsenal, but is this just the media making something out of nothing.

The Daily Star is reporting that Victor Wanyama wants to join Arsenal, but is the paper making something out of a nothing quote from the player, certainly Saints fans would hope so.

Rumours surfaced a few months ago that Arlene Wenger coveted the Saints midfielder and now they look likely to start again after Wanyama spoke to a Kenyan TV show.

"It would be nice to move to Arsenal.

"But at this moment such decisions can only be made by Southampton and that is where my concentration as a player is."

So it looks like the Daily Star are trying to stir things up, of course like any player Wanyama will have ambition to play for a so called big club and if asked he will of course tell of his ambition, but in this interview he has qualified his comments and stated clearly his commitment is with Saints.

This perhaps shows how the media works these days they look to turn every little comment or spurious link into a headline.

I seem to remember him (allegedly) coming out with similar stuff last summer. At any rate, I can't see Arsenal signing him. Coquelin has been great of late and they'd sign Schneiderlin over Vic

I think players need to have a greater sense of responsibility when it comes to talking with the media. There is nothing wrong with paying respect to another club, i.e. paying them praise or saying they have a great history, but when a player starts talking about themselves potentially be happy at another club that changes everything. It sounds far more like a "come and get me".

@bstokesaint

Its also VERY easy to misquote a player making a comment in a foriegn language. The express are actually running with th eHeadline

"Southampton midfield star DESPERATE to join Arsenal this summer"

Basically they print what they like

I like Vic and he is a total beast of a stopper but I think he would look totally out of place in the Arsenal side. Even though they are a little more direct of late you still need to be supreme on the ball to get in their midfield. Not sure he has that level of skill.
