Barnsley v QPR Betting Preview
Barnsley v QPR Betting Preview

QPR travel north to Barnsley on Saturday - here is our usual look at where money can be won (or lost) on that game and elsewhere in the weekend markets.

Slightly late column this week because I have been busy shouting at a Rugby League referee in Hull. He deserved it. Anyway last week we both lost all the money. I blew £50 taking The Challenger account down to £92.61 while Brian lost £45 last week which takes him to -£246.78.

The Carling Cup and the Six Nations take centre stage this week alongside our trip to Barnsley of course. We head to Yorkshire with a credible draw at Cardiff under our belt but with no disrespect to our opponents if the Play offs is our aim 3 points at Oakwell is a must. I think we will do it and will go for a 3-1 win with Leigertwood again being our selection for first goal.

The Carling Cup sees holders Spurs take on Man Utd and although Harry has a good record of turning over United in Cup competitions I can’t see Spurs retaining their trophy. As football has this habit of kicking you in the teeth we will go for a double whammy of Berbatov to rub their noses in it by scoring the first goal.

England travel to the magnificent Croke Park in Dublin on Saturday and I think will be heading home with a defeat and will back Irelands captain Brian O’Driscoll as first try scorer.

I will be doing as much research as I can for Cheltenham but I know that keeping an eye on Ferdy Murphys horses as they can be very profitable as he has a knack of getting big price winners and Fredy can get us some dosh for the festival by winning the 2.50 at Kempton with Kilkenny All star.

For the weekend:

£5 QPR to beat Barnsley 3-1 22/1
£5 Leigertwood to score the first goal 28/1

£10 D Berbatov to score 1st goal in Carling Cup Final 11/2

£10 Brian O’Driscoll to score first try for Ireland V England 11/1

£2 trebles and £2 accum
Cardiff 6/4
Leeds Evs
Huddersfield 12/5
Gillingham 4/5

£10 Kilkenny Allstar 2.50 Kempton

Previously Advised:
£2.50 e/w Power Elite – Grand National 50/1 Ladbrokes
France to win the 6 Nations £15 7/2 Skybet
Kauto Star to win Cheltenham Gold Cup £20 3/1 Corals

You would thin that after watching so much Rugby League I would be able to pick the odd result from it but having backed Richard Agar to be the first coach to be sacked his Hull team has won its first three games, a best ever start to a Super League season, while James Lowes at Warrington will be lucky to live through the night. Last weekend I went with Hull and Hull KR to win, only one did, but I cannot say I was too disappointed. Probably a good job the column is late this week because I would have backed Saints and Catalans to beat both Hull teams and in the end it turned out to be the Hull double I backed last week. My Rugby League bet this week is for injuy hit Leeds to beat Aussie side Manley in the WCC. Whatever you may hear from Sy who have to build this game up it’s a none event - always played in this country against an Aussie side taking it far less seriously than our team. Leeds in Leeds as well – I think they’ll do it despite their various knocks. At Barnsley on Saturday I am departing from my usual rules of not predicting QPR wins and always backing Rangers to draw so while I blow another tenner on that I’d stick your money on a stalemate – sod’s law and all that. Interesting to note, for those trying to buy money, that many companies are refusing to take bets on York v Weymouth this week.

For the weekend:
Barnsley 0 QPR 1 £10 at 13/2
Damion Stewart to score first £10 at 25/1

£10 League Two draw double – Leeds v Scunthorpe, MK Dons v Leicester both 12/5

£10 treble Bolton (evens), West Ham (6/4) and Blackburn (6/4) to win

£10 Leeds to beat Manley in the World Club Challenge 11/10.
