Philippe flopped

After arriving at the club in 2004 Philippe Senderos never lived up to his billing as the next Tony Adams and has made an inevitable departure at the end of his contract.

A recent loan spell with Everton had made David Moyes the favourite to land the Swiss defender's signature but it is Europa Cup finalists Fulham who have today announced that a three year contract has been agreed with the former Arsenal man.

Despite being short of players in central defence, Wenger signalled his intention to let Senderos leave when he allowed him to go on loan to Milan last season. Big Phil occasionally made the grade at the Grove, most memorably during the 05/06 Champions League campaign, but was frequently exposed at the highest level with Didier Drogba sure to be pleased that Senderos will be sticking around in the Premier League.

After another anticlimactic season, there is a sense that this should be a summer of change. A streamlined, higher quality squad can only be good for the club but with William Gallas also heading for the exit door and Sol Campbell's future uncertain, there will be some anxiety around this summer until Wenger announces defensive signings, especially if Mikael Silvestre sticks around.
