Middlesbrough 1 Blackpool 1

So have we finally turned that elusive corner. A performance which was described as 'excellent' by one spectator but still not enough to secure Blackpool their first league win of the season. However, it's another point on the board and whilst it doesn't lift Jose Riga's side off the foot of the Championship, the confidence it builds in the side could be a lot more important.

Few had the Seasiders down for anything from tonight's trip to the Riverside but we wrote in our preview that the luck has to change eventually and with Boro carrying a few injuries and suspensions you'd hope that this was a small chance. However with Peter Clarke still unavailable and neither of the new boys in the squad, the one bit of solace that the manager could take was that Jeffrey Rentmeister was fit and could play in the centre. Orlandi and Edu Oriol also came in to a Blackpool side who had struggled on recent trips to the Riverside.

Blackpool struggled to get out of the blocks in this one with the league positions reflected on the pitch and there was little surprise when a poor Blackpool defensive header saw Ayala reacting quickest to loop a header of his own over a stranded Lewis. However, the Seasiders fought back well and an excellent cross from Joan Oriol find Ishmael Miller who inched ahead of his marker inside the six-yard box and put away his first goal of the season. Orlandi and Perkins both came close to giving the visitors the lead before the break.

The second half saw chances fall to both sides but some heroic defending from the team in tangerine ensured Joe Lewis didn't concede another whilst Miller had a rare chance to take all three points for Blackpool. Jose Riga's side will surely take plenty of confidence going in to Friday's game but whether it will provide enough entertainment for some of the fans to stay in their seats remains to be seen!
