Jay Rodriguez Wanted By Seemingly The Whole Top Six In The Premier

Despite the fact that he hasn't kicked a ball since April of last year and doesn't look likely to be able to kick another one till March of this Jay Rodriguez is a wanted man.

The strangest thing of this transfer window is that either most of the top six clubs in the Premier League have got sympathetic insurers or half of the football journalists in this country have not realised that Jay Rodriguez was stretchers off against Man City last April.

Whatever the case the media this morning is big on the fact that a plethora of clubs are about to launch a bid for Jay Rodriguez.

So if this is true then what should Saints do ? My own opinion is that if any of them are silly enough to pay somewhere in the region of £25 million for a player who may not be the same player when he returns to football, then Saints should snap their hands off.

Whilst I still think that if he can return to football in the final weeks of the season Rodriguez could be a timely boost to the Saints cause, a view that seems to be shared by several other clubs who would like them to do the same for them, the stark reality is that this is the unknown, we don't know when he will return or whether his return could see instant success or whether mentally it will take him a while.

This being the case and with Rodriguez going into the last year of his contract in the summer, if the deal is right, then it could be in our interest to sell now and get in a player who can contribute to our season now.

So Saints should tell any potential suitors bluntly, we are not going to haggle, with the transfer window closure only a week or so away, it is offer on the table within the next day or so or no deal at all.

The reality though is that none of these clubs will make a concrete offer, the news is being stirred up in the press because it is a slow transfer window, whilst I sometimes seriously doubt the sanity of the likes of Spurs, Man City & Liverpool when i look at the money they waste in the transfer market, I cannot believe they would want to pay big money for a player who is crocked and with no return date in sight.

As I said they would need sympathetic insurers, as i can't see man being willing to underwrite cover on a player with this injury who has yet to prove that he can return and therefore to sign him now would be a big gamble.

I remain a big fan of Jay Rodriguez, however i am a fan of the player he was, no one knows whether that form will return or whether the injury will mean he will never be the same player.
