Question for JFH 23:35 - Sep 14 with 2300 viewszicoshoops

Hello Jimmy.

I bet you've had better days.........
I know I have son.

Anyway......
This Saturday will be 50 years to the day since I saw my first match at H/Q.
Oddly enough, the result was 6 nil.
Although it was the right way round..........6 nil to us, 3 in each half. (Doncaster Rovers, old Third Division)

Any way son, my question is this................

What's going on?????

We should be told.

Sort it out.

Fair play - I have been going for 45 years, man and idiot.

Like me you will remember a team that battered teams for 20 minutes from the kick off and then battered teams for the final 15 minutes until the opposition collapsed...

That, for me, is never going to happen under JFH. It sort of happened under NW in 2011 and before that under Venables, who had it down to a tea, Doherty, who unleashed 2 forwards and hugely quick wingers, and Jago, who was again great at the tactic.

JFH keeps saying he wants a high pressing attacking style of play and then turns out set ups designed to soak up getting battered. Ramsey before him had no idea how to set up a team that was capable of playing a style of football. With the exception of the Leeds game I haven't seen any evidence that he has any real feel for an attacking or even remotely attractive style of play.

Di Canio is free, I loved his style of football and for all his clubs he still has a much better win rate. The players expressed themselves and enjoyed playing. He also knew how to use playmakers and get the ball forward and wide quickly. He was an attacking manager. That is what we are good at. Not sitting back.

Never knowingly right.

Hmmm I don't remember di canios teams playing expansive football. I seem to recall discussions about his sides having the trademark Italian safety first approach. Anyone else care to remember ?

Question for JFH on 06:31 - Sep 15 with 2160 viewsLblock

Di Canio's teams did have a lovely balance of defensive tightness and attacking flair but then he had the luxury of players who bought into his ideas and obviously respected him as coach and manager
I seem to recall Hogan and Vine played some good stuff under him?

Alas, the squad seem to have downed tools for ODH and whatever regime he's got going just isn't working
Whoever came in now would have an impossible task as we simply have had all attacking intent coached out of us and we have absolutely NOBODY in the middle of the park who can put their foot on the ball and create anything. Well done to all involved.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Yup, Faurlin was slow bless him but he linked play up beautifully. We knew Henry holds midfield and it appears Cousins has been told to mark Henry.

Never knowingly right.

Thanks for making me think of it Zico. It made me realize that my own 50th anniversary is coming up on October 1st- the 5-1 win against Grimsby Town in the old 3rd division in 1966. I seem to remember we scored 4 in each of the next 3 home games as well!

Yeah, let's employ a psychotic fascist who can't even hold down a pundit job without getting fired.
And you walk around calling other people inept.

Bare bones.

Think he might be talking about Gigi, not Paolo...

We had a lot more fun watching Di Canio's team it's true. But also worth remembering we finished 14th that season, which is exactly where Hasselbaink has us as we sit here discussing sacking him.

14th and fun I can live with.
14th and turgid displays of defensive / midfield deficiencies is much harder to live with.

Ok I accept your post after Tuesday night was nonsense - you're clearly NOT keping your powder dry for 3 minutes let alone 3 games.

"Downed tools" Really?

Not good enough yes, but really haven't seen any evidence that the players have given up.

TBF its a common cry from fans but is in the main not correct.

Championship manager once said that fans often think that but in his experience it was very rare.

It doesn't come from any great love of club/manager , but as he said who in their right mind WANTS 10s of thousands of people shouting abuse for not trying.

Guess its (yet another) stick to bash JFH with.

And he took over the team whilst at rock bottom after that 5-1 drubbing at West Brom. Yep, he got some players signed for him early such as Buzsaky and Vine and Hogan and had the likes of Rowlands as well, but generally had a less talented squad than Hasselbaink has got currently. The football under Di Canio was a joy to watch great passing and movement and the midfield filled their boots with goals as did Dave. Even that home game against Burnley when we were two up before Andy Cole scored a hat-trick and we lost 4-2 was enjoyable, we still outplayed them all night with some terrific football. Beat Southampton at their place 3-2 after going one down after a minute, stuffed a promotion bound Stoke side at HQ 3-0 with plenty to spare. If Di Canio had the whole season we would have got in the play offs and would have been leading scorers in that season without doubt. A real happy six months to be a Rangers supporter, despite Briatore.

Like I say, he was good fun, and it was an enjoyable season. Maybe someone should track down Mrs Di Canio and see how she feels about Gigi coming back to London.

(Personally I enjoyed a lot of the Jim Magilton era too, if you can call half a season an era...)

for once we agree on something Danny I thought that September/October we had under old Jimbo was some of the best football I had seen in a long time at Rangers
Barnsley 5-2, Derby 4-2, Newcastle 1-1 , Reading 4-1 and the best display of the lot was the home game against Preston when we d1cked them 4-0 it should have been 15

as for Di canio I thought he was way a head of his time for the championship the system he played was brilliant and the football was sublime at times (the blackpool home match with the Akos side foot volley) , it was just a shame he had a dodgy back four , would have loved to have seen him get another season

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I think L block likes to dish these hilarious names out in the hope that someone else uses it — first Benny, now ODH.

I'm going to start referring to L block as NFL Block.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Long time ago, but we played expressive, attractive football on a shoe string budget and quietly humbled the Scum by keeping what should have been a mauling to a respectable 1-0 loss. Was sorry to see him go.
Was alledgedly too fond of the London Casinos...

I also remember many a discussion about the inability to defend the full 90 minutes, conceeding many a late goal.
