I noticed there's a few MMA threads on here but I figure on the advent of the biggest MMA fight of all time it'd make sense to start a proper thread.
So, this weekend. Conor vs Khabib. I don't know what to think. How will the fight go? How do I want it to go?
The safe bet is that Khabib takes Conor down easily. I think that, as insufferable as Conor is, I want to see Conor starch him. It'd be historic. It'd be our Rumble in the Jungle.
If Khabib does win then I'd want it to be an absolute mauling. Not the lay and pray nonsense that he often puts on.
Either way, Tony Ferguson is the true king. Neither of them would last a round against El Cucuy.

Always quite difficult to call when one guy is undefeated. Hard to gauge quite how good Khabib is.
What we do know; Connor has been taken down plenty of times before and Khabib thus far has taken everybody down with ease. So there is a decent chance he gets Connor down early and pounds the sh!t out of him. Doesn't look great on his feet though. Will Connor knock him out before he can get hold of him? Nobody has done it yet.
Very exciting.
It's not impossible that one of them pulls out of the fight.

I have Khabib to win this quite comfy, dominating on the floor and grinding him down... I think it'll be interesting if Conor catches him and it's fair to say Khabib hasn't really fought anybody really great, but he's been out the octagon a long time and with the motivation to HAVE to fight for a living taken away (he already admitted he never has to work a day in his life again), I think Khabib wins.

When there are two strikers fighting, let's say Darren Till vs Conor, i find that so much better to watch than boxing usually. Kick boxing is just children's version of Muay Thai tbh. I like all of them, but a good standup MMA match is the most entertaining to me.
Most fights end up on the floor, though, and i don't enjoy any of that at all. I wouldn't bother to watch Khabib particularly, but Conor is fcuking brilliant to watch.

Tae Kwon Do doesn't even qualify as a genuine combat sport really. One thing MMA has done is shown up things like Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu and Karate as the useless cack they basically are. No offence meant, it's just true.
Anybody learning anything like that, pack it in and take up Muay Thai or Boxing.
Although, these look good...
fight.

I disagree fella. I know some quality TKD fighters. My lads instructor would more than hold his own in a stand up fight. Good TKD fighters are few and far between though, my lad has been doing TKD since the age of 4 and now wants to start moving into Sanshou with me.
Sanshou is based on Kung Fu but has been adapted by the Chinese military so I disagree about Kung Fu being useless too. Sanshou is very much like MT but not as pretty to watch.
Gloucs, you're missing a trick when it comes to the grappling stuff. Admittedly you get bad fights where it's just a grind up against the cage but a good technical submission is amazing to see.
I find boxing impossible to enjoy now and I used to love it. It's just so one dimensional.
I've been to a few live Muay Thai events and they are usually a slog too.

It's just a variant of WWE with thuggier combatants and even worse fans. Oh... and the money to be made from staging such arrant nonsense. "Former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury: "What the average fan don't understand is it's show business as well as a fight. Think how big a rematch could be."

Well i have just watched the show, I enjoyed the the first bout and the ferguson one was great and the McGregor one was a joy, shame about the incredible nonsense post fight, i really really hope that wasnt stage managed in any way because the dentists and police of Las Vegas are likely to be very busy today in the aftermath.

Dominant from Khabib there, although I would score the third round to Conor. But the way he won that fight was to lay and pray on Conor for a couple of rounds and tire out Conor. At that point it was done. Diaz hurt Conor way worse.
Shameful antics from Khabib but understandable.
That Lewis win was insanity.

Think Orega is the future and wouldn't be surprised to see him submit Holloway - who's no joke.
I rate Ortega's stand up too, but Holloway can light you up, so when the going gets tough Orega can take you down or submit you from anywhere. What a fight though.
