Prefer the books myself, Lala. In fact you have just inspired me to buy the complete collection of the short stories - something I`ve been meaning to do for a while now. Bite-size Sherlock Holmes at bedtime is one of life`s little oasis of joy.

Also quite like the stories of he gentleman thief AJ Raffles and his sidekick `Bunny` (his darker and less moral inversion of Holmes) written as a tribute to Doyle by his brother-in-law EW Hornung...

Another vote for Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. The ones made between 1939 - 1945 are masterpieces of wartime propaganda.

Quite like Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes in Elementary, but I have a feeling that's might be more about Lucy Liu playing Dr Joan Watson.

They used to show the Basil Rathbone ones at 6pm on BBC 2 in the late 70’s. Remember watching them as a kid scared half to death!
