My girlfriend's brother made a very similar decision after about the same time and was in a very powerful public position. In the end was the best decision he made and over time everyone got used to it. It took my girlfriend quite a few years to get her head around it but she's now very happy for him because he's just been honest to himself. Tough on Phillip's family but I suspect they have known for a very long time this day would come and for the sake of your mental health and those around you you have to make these decisions, especially if you are in the public eye. Good luck to him. People shouldn't spend their lives hiding. Whether you agree with their decisions or not. | |

I don't get this. Is he saying that he has realised that he is gay, but has not yet "practised" being gay, or is he saying that he has had gay relationships all the way through his marriage?
If the former, absolutely something to be applauded, but if the latter, what's the difference between being unfaithful to your spouse with a man or a woman? If he has been unfaithful, then why is everyone supporting him and telling him how brave he is; I wouldn't put infidelity up as a virtue; quite the opposite. Yes, it must be an incredibly difficult position to be in, but is realising that you are gay any different from realising that you love someone or something else more than your spouse? Surely, the brave thing to have done would have been to be upfront and honest with his family before he was unfaithful (assuming that he has acted on his feelings)?
Hope that everyone involved (including Pip and Gordon the Gopher) finds their own peace and solace following the pain this has and will undoubtedly cause. | |

My best friend's husband came out as gay after 23 years of marriage.
They get on ok and he has now got a male partner.
But she is very very hurt, can't trust another man and left in limbo.

There is little doubt that my friend's husband deceived and betrayed her and I do think this of Schofield.

Must be quite hard for his daughters, went to school with a bloke who married has 4 kids and is now married to a bloke and running a cafe in southsea, it’s probably down to the fact that he was hiding his feelings due to the abuse and lack of understanding that was prevalent in the 80’s.
I do feel that he has betrayed and lied to his wife but he obviously talked to his family before going public and once it’s all calmed down she will probably be relieved that she isn’t living in a sham marriage. | |
