Nothing wrong with small players unless there's a whole raft of them in the team.

We'd get bullied, and beaten, by less talented teams.

There's nothing official and we've not signed him yet.

If we do it's Critchleys choice.

I'm not doping cartwheels at the prospect of a player who's not good enough / being panned off by Rotherham.

Don't expect any news on signings until the contracts run out on June 30.

I agree Spell. We are yet to see if Critchley has the ability to find any diamonds in the rough

'We're going to put an offer in': Swindon Town preparing bid for Blackpool and Sunderland target

Swindon Town are preparing an offer for Blackpool target Jerry Yates.

The striker, who has also attracted interest from Sunderland, netted 14 times during a loan spell with Swindon last season.

The 23-year-old’s parent club Rotherham United recently triggered a clause in Yates’ contract to extend his deal by 12 months, ensuring they will receive a fee for his services should he depart this summer.

And Swindon are set to become the first side to test the Millers’ resolve — with manager Richie Wellens revealing the club are preparing an offer for the forward.

Speaking to BBC Wiltshire, the former Blackpool midfielder said: “We’re going to put an offer into Rotherham in the next 48 hours, and we’ll see what Rotherham say.

“But we can only pay what we can pay in the current market.”

Yates, a product of Rotherham’s academy, has made sporadic appearances for the Millers’ first-team during his six years with the club, scoring five times in 44 appearances.

He has also spent time out on loan with Harrogate Railway Athletic, Harrogate Town and Carlisle United.

He scored seven times in 36 games during his season-long loan spell with Carlisle, but he has enjoyed his best season to date by helping Swindon clinch promotion from the fourth tier.

The Seasiders will certainly be keen to bolster their attacking options following the recent departure of top goalscorer Armand Gnanduillet.

In other news, Pool midfielder Jamie Devitt - who has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Seasiders - is attracting interest from former club Carlisle United as well as Bolton Wanderers.

The Trotters, now managed by Pool legend Ian Evatt, are also in for Jay Spearing along with Tranmere Rovers and Sunderland.

Pool’s club captain recently departed Bloomfield Road after failing to agree terms on a new contract.

The former Liverpool midfielder, who previously played for Bolton between 2012 and 2017, departs having made 120 appearances for the Seasiders, scoring eight times.

Swindon boss reveals a rival club has made an offer they're unlikely to match for Rotherham striker and Blackpool target

Rotherham United have received a bid for Blackpool target Jerry Yates - but it hasn’t come from Swindon Town.

That’s according to Robins boss and former Seasider Richie Wellens, who has revealed Swindon will be tabling their own offer in the next 48 hours.

However, Wellens admits Swindon’s bid is unlikely to match the one Rotherham have already received.

This has sparked speculation that the bid already tabled has come from Blackpool, who are known to be keen on the 23-year-old frontman.

“Rotherham have received a bid from another club,” he told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

“We will put a bid in over the next couple of days but the only problem is that it won’t be as much as the other club has offered. It will be a little bit away from it.

“We will see if we can develop that in the next couple of weeks and then the decision will come down to Jerry.”

Yates, who is also a reported target for Sunderland, scored 14 goals for Swindon last season during a season-long loan spell.

Rotherham recently triggered a clause in the forward’s contract to extend his deal by 12 months, ensuring they will receive a fee for his services should he depart this summer.

Millers boss Paul Warne today confirmed a bid had been tabled for the striker but also failed to reveal the identity of the club in question.

Rotherham boss reveals which club has bid for Blackpool and Swindon Town target Jerry Yates

Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has revealed Blackpool are the only club to have lodged a bid for Jerry Yates as it stands.

The striker’s former loan club Swindon Town are also expected to table an offer but, speaking on Tuesday, Millers boss Warne said Blackpool are the only side to have acted on their firm interest so far.

Swindon are unlikely to match Pool’s six-figure bid, with the Robins only able to offer an installments-based sum.

While Blackpool’s offer falls below Rotherham’s asking price, Millers boss Warne confirmed the striker will depart the New York Stadium once a club meets their valuation.

“There has been no bid from Swindon to my knowledge as we speak on Tuesday morning. I'm aware only that Blackpool have put an official bid in,” Warne said.

“There might have been a few phone calls here and there (from other clubs), but they're the only ones to put an official bid in.

“If they reach the technical board's valuation, then Jerry will be gone, so to speak.

“In the meantime, he is training with us and training really well. Because of the type of people we are, we will continue to train him as if he's staying here.

“I'm well aware of the fact there are a lot of clubs interested in him and we'll see how that progresses.

“At the moment, the bid hasn't reached our valuation so he stays with us.”

Rotherham recently triggered a clause in Yates’ contract to extend his deal by 12 months, ensuring they will receive a fee for his services should he depart.

Yates, a product of Rotherham’s academy, has also been linked with Sunderland this summer.

The forward has made sporadic appearances for the Millers’ first-team during his six years with the club, scoring five times in 44 appearances.

He scored 14 goals in 36 appearances to help Richie Wellens’ men clinch the League Two title.

Just for once we've got a little it of money to spend, a bit of status, and some pulling appeal.

Rotherham are holding out to try and create a bidding war.

I hope we use all this wisely and do business in a measured and intelligent way.

Seasiders Bring In Jerry Yates

Blackpool Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of in-demand striker Jerry Yates from Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee.

Yates, 23, joins the Seasiders on a 3 year deal with the Club having an option to extend for a further year. Yates becomes tangerine after a prolific season on loan at Swindon Town where he played a crucial part for the Robins on their way to the League Two title, scoring 14 goals in 30 appearances.

A product of Rotherham United’s academy, the striker has enjoyed loan spells at various clubs and made close to 50 appearances for the Millers, proving to be a real threat at any level he has played at.

Despite facing stiff competition from other Clubs for his signature, Yates opted for Blackpool FC and becomes Neil Critchley’s fourth signing of the summer ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

On signing for Blackpool, Jerry Yates said:

“I’m buzzing to get this over the line and sign for Blackpool.

“I’ve known about the interest for a while now, so to finally be here is a great feeling. This is an exciting Club with a huge fanbase and a big vision for the future.

“I’m ready and waiting to help the Club succeed and I can’t wait for what’s to come.”

Neil Critchley said:

“I’m delighted that Jerry has decided to join us at Blackpool.

“He works tirelessly for the team and is exactly the kind of player we need to continue moving the Club forward. He’s honest and has a tremendous work ethic, which is something I’m sure our supporters will identify with.

"His goal scoring record, particularly last season, was excellent, and we’re delighted to welcome him to Bloomfield Road.”
