"This morning, the pound is strong against the euro, which dropped three points on the dollar, which rallied against the yen..."
STOP IT! JUST FUGGIN' STOP FOR A SECOND! PlEASE!
It makes my brain hurt. There's screaming in there. Banshees wailing in my head. Strong? Weak? Are these currencies bodybuilders? Do they have human qualities?
Just. Stop. It.
I did Economics at A Level. I did well. I would have been top of the class if it wasn't for the other student in the class. I get things. Some things.
So why when I hand my money over to the 16-yr old pimply lad in the perspex booth do I just hope for the best, get a random amount of notes back, think "ooh, that's a lot" and thank him twice?
Apart from the obvious conclusion, that is.
"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Money doesn't exist, it's made up. Hence "I promise to pay the bearer the sum of....." printed on each note.
It then becomes a tradeable commodity like a house or a car which gives slimy fuggers the opportunity to rinse it for what they can. Hence fuggers like Rees-Mogg who trades & profits off financial disasters.

Is it wrong of me to assume that you have seen The Young Offenders?
We have been rewatching The Young Offenders from the start having binged watched Series 3 in one night. Even though herself is a Corkonian, I have never seen her sit down and watch something twice, EVER! So I don’t think it is the case that she is from Cork that she loves it she just thinks it’s brilliant as do I.
What is the general consensus of the show at home especially around Cork? Has it been welcomed to deflect the negativity away from Mrs Brown and restored Irish comedy rep? Looks like some of it was shot around Mayfield council estates or somewhere nearby anyway. Are some of those estates still that rough in the city - the scenes with locals riding through the housing estates reminds me of The Commitments and that was 30 years ago. Have the programme makers made it look worse than it really is now?
The £ increase will be short-lived. Too much uncertainty on UK-EU talks on Brexit - too many unknowns. It's been like that since the Brexit vote and will be further compounded by the impact of Covid.
Currency trading is all over the place - no where on earth is a safe haven for investor money other than buying debt. The only solid institutions are the pension funds and they now have tough choices to make given Covid will impact the commercial property and re-investment market.
Happy times!

I enjoyed economics, but in a contrarian way I came to realize. Thought other students were generally dogmatic / rigid with their views, they mainly leftish in their thinking which appeared, to me anyway, a hindrance to understanding the broadness of the subject. Dead right on boring though, it only came to life when I started investing, then the pennies dropped.
I have no idea what I am safe to say, wear or eat these days for fear of something called cultural appropriation (or sumfink) or that old classic "racist innit".
That and my wife
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I get my pension in £ but most of my spending is in Euros. If the £ falls (weakens) I get less Euros. In June 2016 £100 would have got me 131 Euros but a week later I got 118. For the last 3-6 months it has been trading at around 1.10
I keep a record of what I get, in Euros, from my state pension and early this year my income dropped 50 Euros in 2 months.
Marginal changes in exchange rate makes a huge difference when I am selling French houses.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one’s lifetime. (Mark Twain)

No, I think it's drivel and so does nearly everyone here except for the smallies and young teens. They've definitely exaggerated the roughness of the Northside - very similar to the Commitments as you say, and it hasn't gone down well at all.

Give us a break, I’m on holiday, if you can call sitting indoors for a 24 hour rainstorm a holiday. Brian will know.
Foreign exchange, one part of financial markets where absolutely no one knows what’s happening. Those FX trader ads on the TV (and the fact that they chose Watford to sponsor is a bit of a clue) have small print warning that on average 70% of traders lose money.

Could be wrong but "I promise to pay the bearer the sum of" means to the same value in gold, and the bank of England has to keep enough gold in their vaults to honour that promise.
'You didn't know that was wrong, but now you do. If you do it again, I'll know you are doing it on purpose.'
