Official Statement: Macclesfield Town 19:43 - Aug 11 with 234 viewsBringBackTheRedRoom

An independent Arbitration Panel has upheld the EFL’s appeal in respect of the outcome of an independent Disciplinary Commission who in June 2020 had considered misconduct charges brought against Macclesfield Town.

The charges related to failing to pay a number of players on the applicable payment dates due in March 2020, failing to act with utmost good faith in respect of matters with the EFL and for breaching an order, requirement, direction or instruction of the League.

The Arbitration Panel confirmed that the two-point suspended sporting sanction activated on 19 June 2020 from previous proceedings will stand and in addition the four point deduction, originally suspended in the latest proceedings and only to be activated in the event of a further breach of Regulation 63.7 during season 2020/21, will be activated immediately and applied to the 2019/20 table.

Today’s outcome leaves Macclesfield Town in 24th position in the table on 19 points with a points per game (PPG) total of 23.62, resulting in the Club’s relegation into the National League.

The Arbitration panel’s decision is final and binding.

The EFL will be making no further comment.

A terse statement if ever I've seen one.

Learning to read clusters is not something your eyes do naturally. It takes constant practice.

Sad though this is and likewise with Bury before them it is the only way to discourage rogue owners. I feel for the supporters but do think the EFL had no other choice.

And now I am going away to vomit at the thought of agreeing with the EFL.

They've not helped themselves, that is for certain. But a blind man could see they had problems, an earlier intervention might have helped.

I think we need a regulation model that puts as much of a premium on mentoring and structured support to failing clubs, as it does on sanctions. It worked spectacularly in local government in England between 2001 and 2005.

Icon? It's all Rio Ferdinand's fault.

Like to see the golden share, pitch, stadium and training ground ring fenced and clubs put up a bond at the beginning of the season. Sort of cross between how the banks were split up and the way ABTA work with holiday travel firms.

Surely the salary cap will help with all this?

It'll all gradually even out over the next 2 or 3 years and the 2 lower leagues could become more of an even playing field.

If and when a "big" club falls on hard times and gets stranded in L1 / 2, they could remain there for a long time.

The reverse is also true. A team like, say Carlisle, will stand more chnace of being promoted to the championship.

Controlling players salaries is one thing controlling owners who do not accept that they are custodians of community assets and supporters dreams is quite another.

Agree with that Imp.
