Blackpool Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of John Stephenson as its new Head of Football Operations.

Highly regarded within the game, Stephenson has 24 years of experience working in professional football, having held similar positions at Sheffield United, Watford and Brighton, plus several, high-profile consultancy roles.

His expertise initially started out in youth and academy football with the likes of Reading and Celtic, where he developed innovative and nation-leading coaching programmes, as well as talent identification systems.

Due to start permanently with the Seasiders on Monday, following a period of consultancy, Stephenson will oversee and support the football operations of the Club, ranging from recruitment to the continued integration of the Academy system, where he will report in to the Board with his recommendations and implement them as necessary.

Chief Executive Ben Mansford said:

“I am delighted that we have been able to attract someone of John’s expertise and experience to the Club. John is well known throughout the footballing world. John has a proven track record for strategising, implementing processes and unifying football related services to produce a cohesive football operations department to support Managers, Head Coaches and Academy Directors. John will be able to provide guidance to the Board and support to Neil Critchley and Ciaran Donnelly, as we all work together to continue taking the Club forward.”
