Excellent. Enjoyed that, thanks.

Wegerle's possibly underrated at this stage.

It's a good point Brian. When we discuss the 'best' this or that on this forum, Wegerlie, Stainrod and Byrne probably don't get the kudos they deserve - marvelous, exciting players.

Fabulous player, for some odd reason I was watching an interview with Gordon Strachan years ago and when asked who was the best player he played against he said Roy Wegerle and he mentioned the goal he scored at Elland Road on the 20th October 1990, Gordon Strachan said he was unplayable at times especially on that day.

He was always one of those players who when on the ball you took notice (if you know what I mean)

Nightmare to defend against.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

I remember playing Arsenal when we had a huge injury list, he seemed to single-handedly take them on and run them ragged - they kicked him off the pitch and went on to win, but for 60 minutes it was one of the best performances I have seen

I remember that game. Wegerle absolutley ran the arsenal defence ragged, smashed a wonderful shot off the bar.

We ran out of steam in the second half and lost 2-0, but Wegerle's performance that day always sticks in my happy memories

I had forgotten. Nice to be reminded.

Jesus, Wegerle used to give Adams nightmares.

I was at the Leeds game. That and the Sinclair goal are the best two I've seen. What was so remarkable about the goal against Leeds is that the Leeds fans broke out into instant applause as you can hear on the clip. Never seen that before of since.

Never knowingly right.

You and distort have now got me frantically searching the interweb to see what the score was now.

I'm convinced in my head it was 0-2, but you could be right!

Did we beat Liverpool in the Anfield goal match?

Not sure I saw Wegerle play for us he was injured I think at my first ever game, what did we get for his sale?

I don't remember it being anything famous as a sale like Peacock or Ferdinand for example.

Won 3-1, even though the ref tried his best to get Liverpool back in the game with a scandalous penalty

About the only criticism I could ever make of Gerry Francis is that we had Wegerle and Ferdinand on the books when he arrived and IMO that should have been our front two for years.

Roy started out alongside Colin Clarke and maybe Falco IIRC, Les usually played alongside Penrice and Bradley Allen - all decent players especially the last two but it's pretty obvious who the stars were in those partnerships. Wegerle/Ferdinand should have been up there with Bannister/Byrne or Goddard/Allen

Wasn't the word that Francis didn't rate Wegerle's work-rate?

His WIki says 1990-1992 - 65 Apps 29 goals.

Thats a staggering performance - but I guess in the next 3 years QPR did very well for the most part - how many better with Wegerle?

We can never know but it looks on the face of it an odd decision, also says Francis had little use for him by then???...

I always thought he could be bullied in a match.

Roy Wegerle on 18:51 - Jan 31 with 2761 viewsMyke

It's all ancient history now. But if that was the case, wouldn't you think that having played with Stan, Francis would understand the importance of a maverick player? Plenty willing work-horses out there, but a game changer was/is a rare commodity. Even an old warhorse like Warnock recognised that with Adel.
