Youth Team Report: Salford City 4 Blackpool 0
The Under-18s suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday morning in a 4-0 defeat at Salford City.
After a good start to the Cup campaign last week, the young Seasiders travelled to Partington Sports Village to face the Ammies in search of another positive performance and result.
Several second-year scholars featured, as Jack Moore and Joe Strawn returned to the side alongside first-year pro Matty Liptrott.
It wasn’t the best start to the game for Blackpool, as, after five minutes, they found themselves a goal down when a quick counter-attack from the hosts allowed the striker to finish comfortably from inside the 18-yard box.
Just two minutes later, Salford had another after a floated cross into the area was latched onto by a red shirt just six yards from goal, who despatched comfortably.
Things got better for Blackpool when a couple of half-chances gave the side something to build on. James Harrison first found Luke Hall, who couldn’t quite get a cross into the area right before Arnold Matshazi saw an effort on goal saved well by the Salford ‘keeper.
Then just before the break, both Joe Strawn and Hall had opportunities from distance, but both strikes were saved comfortably.

The Seasiders had a point to prove after the break, and they nearly did so when Jack Moore curled a dangerous ball towards numerous white shirts in the area, but the ball evaded everyone and rolled out of play for a goal kick.
Luke Mariette looked to spark Blackpool into life after his introduction at the interval, with the midfielder jinking past several men to take a touch inside the area and shoot, however, he dragged his effort inches wide of the post.
Despite a little spell of Blackpool pressure, the hosts nicked a third when a deflected strike wrong-footed Alec McLachlan and hit the back of the net.
Johnny Johnston thought he had scored ten minutes later, though an outstretched leg saw his shot poked away from goal and away from danger.
Salford managed to add a fourth after a scramble in the penalty area saw the ball eventually fall to a red shirt, who tapped into the net.
Johnny Johnston & Prince Yelegon caused problems when they came onto the pitch, and the latter nearly grabbed a consolation goal one minute from time when he beat his man down the left and fizzed a strike towards the bottom corner, but again, the Salford ‘keeper made a good save to keep him out before Johnston scuffed the rebound.
