I understand that Yates'd be "attracting interest" but I don't understand Scrafton's "interesting timing" comment.

Ah ha. So the insinuation is that the info was leaked by Yates' agent the day after his goals elevated us into the play off spots.

‘A TUG OF WAR MIGHT DEVELOP’ — BLACKPOOL SET PRICE TAG FOR NOTTINGHAM FOREST, BLACKBURN AND BRISTOL CITY TARGET: THE VERDICT

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘The Verdict’ series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more

Blackpool striker Jerry Yates could be set for a transfer saga this summer with three Championship clubs circling around him, per Football Insider.

Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City are all thought to be chasing the forward, who only joined the League One side in the summer from Rotherham United for a fee of around £200,000.

And after scoring 14 league goals so far this season for the Seasiders with potentially more to come, the club have apparently set their price at £2 million should anyone want to stump up the money.

With Ivan Toney proving to be a success after jumping up a division this season, it seems that there will no longer be big bargains in League One and Blackpool are in a strong position, with Yates contracted to the club for at least two more seasons.

Is £2 million a fair price for the 24-year-old though? We asked the FLW writers for their thoughts on the matter…

George Harbey

I think that would be a great price for both Blackpool and whoever buys him.

It’s easy to say it now, but I thought Blackpool were so lucky to get their hands on Yates. I rated him a lot at Swindon last season and was surprised Rotherham didn’t give him a go in the Championship.

Blackpool’s trust and belief in the player has paid off though, and his goalscoring record in League One this season has been superb.

He has two years left on his deal and this summer is probably the best time to sell him for as high a fee as possible.

The three Championship teams are all big clubs, and £2million would help Blackpool reinvest in the squad and strengthen it.

Alfie Burns

They are well within their rights to be demanding this type of money.

What you’ve got is a number of Championship clubs taking an interest in a League One striker, which puts Blackpool in a strong position.

Whilst they can’t take the mick, they can demand slightly over the odds knowing that a tug-of-war might develop.

Whether Yates the player is worth £2m, I’m not sure, but to Blackpool, he’s probably worth that amount of money.

Given the clubs that are involved, if any interest is serious, I’d expect Blackpool to get their money for Yates.

Sam Rourke

Strikers that score goals often demand hefty price-tags and for me, it’s a fair valuation on a player who is bang in form with Blackpool.

Yates has shown flashes of quality over the years but has struggled to consistently deliver but he’s found that element of consistency at the Tangerines now, becoming an integral cog in their push for the play-offs.

He’s a typical poacher style striker who has a real knack of being in the right place at the right time, and in my eyes, £2m is a bit of a snip for the likes of Forest and Bristol City who are circling.

He’s at a great age too with his peak years ahead of him so it’s a transfer sum that would benefit Blackpool considerably.

In the current situation £2m would seem cheap as we have so long on Yates' contract and both he and the club are on an upward trajectory. At this moment in time, he's worth more than £2m to us.

This could change, it's a funny old world. Such an offer at the beginning of the recent January window would've seemed much more tempting.

Also, a £2m signing would be chicken feed to Forest. At this price Yates would be 28th on their list of all time record signings.

Interestingly, number 2 on the list was a centre forward, Britt Assombalonga (who's now at Middlesborough and doing well with a strike rate of almost 1 in 3), signed from Peterborough for over £6m in 2014 - in his season at Peterborough, Assombalonga scored 23 goals from 43 games.

A proven goal scorer is priceless but not at Forest, they are a graveyard for them. He is better off staying with Blackpool if he wants a long career.

As a way of putting a valuation on Yates, Peterborough have apparently slapped a price tag of £5m on Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Other than him currently being L1's leading goalscorer, I don't know that much about him, what kind of player he is etc.

Rounding the keeper like that is a good skill, not as easy as Yates makes it look.

Must have put at least another £500k on his price tag.

Yates is on fire when it counts. At the business end of the season.

£2m? No chance.

Rangers are reported to be interested in him now.

Is it building up to a summer auction, driving the price up?:

Rangers join race for £2m valued Blackpool striker - report

Rangers have joined the race for Blackpool striker Jerry Yates, according to The72.

The Sun reported in March that three EFL Championship clubs — Nottingham Forest, Blackburn and Bristol City — were interested in Yates, due to his impressive performances in League One.

It was asserted then that the Tangerines valued their asset — who is contracted until 2023 — at £2m.

At that stage, Yates had netted 16 times in all competitions, but he’s since added to his haul, with strikes against Plymouth Argyle, Swindon Town and a brace against Gillingham taking him to the 20-goal mark for the season.

The72 reports that Rangers are now also strongly considering a move for Yates in the summer, with the player unlikely to stay at Bloomfield Road given the number of clubs interested in his signature.

Yates’ goals have fired Blackpool into fourth in the table and although automatic promotion remains unlikely, a surprise promotion to the Championship could be achieved via the playoffs.

Fresh links emerge crediting Blackburn Rovers with transfer interest in League One forward

Jerry Yates has scored more than 20 goals for the Tangerines this season

Blackburn Rovers have once again been linked with a transfer interest in Blackpool forward Jerry Yates.

The 24-year-old has been in sparkling form for the Tangerines this season after moving to Bloomfield Road last summer from Rotherham United.

He has scored 22 goals in all competitions for the club this season and helped fire Neil Critchley's side into the League One play-off positions.

That activity has led to clubs in the Championship eyeing up a potential move for Yates, who has two more years left to run on his deal at Blackpool.

In March, it was reported that Rovers, as well as Championship rivals Nottingham Forest and Bristol City, were three clubs from the league above interested in Yates.

With the player under contract for a few more years and possibly being in the Championship themselves next season, Blackpool are not under pressure to sell.

Blackpool are understood to have a £2 million price tag on their striker, a figure that resembles the significant numbers now required to prise League One strikers.

There's seem to be a lot of clubs sniffing around.

He's on a long contract.

Didn't Yates sign a 3 + 1 deal when he signed last summer?

That'd mean he's under contract until June 2024.

I doubt if £2m would be enough to buy him this summer.

Yates rumours resurfacing as we close in on the summer transfer window. Bristol City again as first reported back in March.:

Bristol City transfer notebook: Robins mull striker bid, centre-back latest, Weimann's options

The latest whispers from our City reporter on a busy summer across at Ashton Gate

Blackpool striker Jerry Yates remains of interest to Bristol City and the Robins are weighing up whether to make a formal approach for the player, who set up a goal in the Seasiders' 3-0 League One play-off win against Oxford United on Tuesday.

As reported yesterday, manager Nigel Pearson and Sean Gilhespy are driving recruitment at the club this summer and all offers will go through them.

Yates is however, just one of a number of options that the Robins are considering as they peruse a list of targets, with it still being early days in the summer transfer market, with the window not yet open in the EFL.

The 24-year-old netted 20 goals and seven assists in 43 League One games in 2020/21, and could yet be a Championship player if the Tangerines see off the U's and then either Lee Johnson's Sunderland or more likely Lincoln City in the play-off final.

Any formal negotiations would have to wait until after the conclusion of the play-offs.

Bristol City are looking for a forward to replace Famara Diedhiou, although Yates is of a different profile and may signal a shift in a slight playing style if he were to arrive. But there are other targets on City's list too.

Diedhiou has interest abroad and one Premier League club tracking him. Neil Warnock remains a big fan but Middlesbrough simply cannot match the terms that are wanted at present.

One source has suggested to Bristol Live that only a team with Premier League parachute payments - Fulham, West Brom and Sheffield United - could afford what the Senegal international is currently looking for in this market.

His priority is to remain in England but the pandemic is significantly reducing contract offers to players this summer. It may be that Diedhiou must reduce his demands or sit tight and await better offers. European interest cannot be discounted.
