There's been gossip and speculation of a few possible ins and outs, even at this early stage, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Possibly because we'd like to do our business ASAP and have a good pre-season.

Sam Lavelle, a Blackpool lad by all accounts, who plays right centre half for Morecambe (bye bye Ballard?):

Sources: Blackpool keeping tabs on 24-year-old ahead of potential summer swoop

Blackpool are among the clubs keeping tabs on Morecambe defender Sam Lavelle ahead of a potential summer move, sources have exclusively told Football League World.

Blackpool-born Lavelle joined Morecambe from Bolton Wanderers following his release by the Lancashire club in 2017, and has since racked up 152 first-team appearances across four seasons for the Shrimps.

The 24-year-old has made 49 appearances across all competitions this season — 42 of those coming in Sky Bet League Two — establishing himself as a key player for Derek Adams’ side in their bid for automatic promotion.

Last night, Lavelle helped Morecambe record their first clean sheet in six and put another vital three points on the board, as the Shrimps beat Grimsby Town 3-0 at Blundell Park to put them only one point behind Bolton in third.

But Lavelle’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed, and sources have exclusively told Football League World that Blackpool are among the sides keeping tabs on the centre-half ahead of a potential summer swoop.

The Tangerines are also chasing promotion this season, with Neil Critchley’s side sitting fifth in Sky Bet League One and three points clear of seventh with two games in hand.

Lavelle is under contract at Morecambe until the summer of 2022, and should a suitable offer come in for the defender this summer, the club may look to cash in rather than potentially lose him for nothing at the end of next season.

More speculation about Lavelle. I read somewhere that he's Morecambe's captain:

Blackpool eye move for League Two defender

Blackpool are interested in Morecambe defender Sam Lavelle.

The Tangerines are keeping tabs on the League Two centre-back ahead of a potential summer move, as reported by Football League World.

Lavelle, who is 24 years old, has impressed with Morecambe this season and is helping them in their push for promotion.

However, Derek Adams’ side could face a battle to keep hold of him this summer with Blackpool monitoring his situation.

Lavelle started his career at Blackburn Rovers and rose up through the youth ranks of the Lancashire side.

He was a regular for Rovers at youth levels but didn’t manage to make the step up into their first-team and was released in 2016.

The ex-Scotland youth international was subsequently snapped up by fellow North West side Bolton Wanderers and spent a year on the books with the Trotters.

However, Lavelle left after just 12 months due to Bolton’s transfer embargo and became a free agent again.

Morecambe threw him a lifeline in August 2017 and he has since become a key player for the fourth tier side. He has enjoyed plenty of game time with the Shrimpers over the past four seasons, making 145 appearances in all competitions to date.

Lavelle is currently eyeing a dream promotion to League One but is attracting interest from elsewhere. It will be interesting to see where he ends up this summer.

Blackpool leading the race to capture the signature of Linfield striker Lavery in transfer window

League One club Blackpool are current favourites to land Linfield's star striker Shayne Lavery when he comes out of contract in the summer.

The 22-year-old from Aghagallon has enjoyed a sensational season, scoring 24 goals for the Blues and playing for Ian Baraclough's Northern Ireland team.

Lavery joined Linfield in 2019 after a loan spell at Falkirk while at parent club Everton, but the Blues were always resigned to losing their top talent.

Kilmarnock and Motherwell were linked with the goal-getter but Sunday Life Sport understands his previous spell in Scotland was not entirely memorable and the player himself favours a move to England.

His agent David Campbell is handling negotiations and, while Blackpool are in pole position, it is possible another offer may come in.

Sunday Life Sport reported exclusively last week that Linfield are considering making a move for Glentoran striker Robbie McDaid as a replacement for Lavery and Andy Waterworth, who will join Glenavon in the summer.

McDaid is still under contract for another year at The Oval and east Belfast sources insist if Linfield are serious, they would have to make an offer "significantly north" of the current domestic Irish League record fee.

That was £55,000 paid by Linfield for Glenn Ferguson in 1998, but Glentoran may be open to a cash-plus-player deal, with Jordan Stewart mooted as a possible candidate. However, Linfield insiders have pooh-poohed the notion, pointing out that ex-Glens youngster Stewart is under contract for another two years at Windsor Park and it would require a huge fee to prise him away from south Belfast.

The Blues are weighing up their options, insisting they have other irons in the fire.

They were one of several clubs interested in Larne striker Johnny McMurray, whose former club Warrenpoint Town are understood to be pushing the boat out to try and land the 26-year-old.

Still at The Oval, Glentoran have sent a letter to Ballymena United declaring their intention to speak to goalkeeper Ross Glendinning, son of Glentoran legend Mark Glendinning.

The 27-year-old handed in a transfer request earlier this season which David Jeffrey "reluctantly agreed to" and looks set to leave for Mick McDermott's side.

The Glens have both Dayle Coleing and Rory Brown currently vying for the No.1 jersey but, having impressed against the Netherlands and Norway at international level for Gibraltar, the club are bracing for offers for 24-year-old Coleing.

There has already been interest from several clubs in the UK and Europe, but as yet no official bids have been received.

Elsewhere, Portadown are interested in signing Michael Ruddy from Crusaders, while Ballymena want a Showgrounds return for David Cushley.

There was talk a while ago about our interest in Gilliead and it's not going away:

Blackpool, Ipswich Town ‘target’ released by Scunthorpe United

Alex Gilliead is leaving Scunthorpe United this summer, as announced on their official club website.

The winger is out of contract at the end of next month and is heading out the exit door on a free transfer.

Gilliead, who is 25 years old, has been linked with a move to League One duo Blackpool and Ipswich Town recently, as per Football League World.

He made 47 appearances in all competitions for Scunthorpe this past season, chipping in with a single goal and four assists.

He has plenty of experience in the Football League having had spells with the likes of Carlisle United, Luton Town, Bradford City and Shrewsbury Town in the past.

The ex-England youth international started his career at Newcastle United but never made a first-team appearance for the North East club.

He bagged five goals in 41 games for Carlisle on loan during the 2015/16 season in his first taste of senior football.

Gilliead then spent a year-and-a-half back in League Two at Bradford after a brief stint at Luton. He was a key player for the Bantams and played 58 times for the Yorkshire club whilst they were in League One.

Shrewsbury came calling that summer and he left Newcastle on a permanent basis. He spent a single season with the Shrews before Scunthorpe signed him in 2019.

He is becoming a free agent now with Blackpool and Ipswich Town linked with a move.

If the original source of this rumour is the Sun then it might come from Alan Nixon: Scottish football journalist who often gets stuff right. I'll have a look at his tweets -

Blackpool join Millwall and Luton Town in battle to sign four-goal ace

Millwall and Luton Town have been joined in the race to sign Motherwell midfielder Allan Campbell this summer by Blackpool with the three sides set to battle it out for the 22-year-old, according to The Sun on Sunday (16/05/2021,p59).

Previous reports have indicated that both Millwall and Luton are interested in making a potential move for Campbell this summer, with the 22-year-old set to be available on a free transfer.

It has been reported that the Lions have sent representatives to watch the midfielder on a few occasions. There is also thought to be interest from Aberdeen and Hibernian.

Campbell has enjoyed an excellent campaign in the Scottish Premier League with Motherwell and he has managed to fire in four goals in his 34 league appearances.

The 22-year-old is a player with a lot of potential and it seems that there is going to be an intense transfer battle ahead for his signature this summer with his stay in Scotland set to come to an end.

The latest update from The Sun on Sunday (16/05/2021,p59), reveals that Blackpool have now entered the race for Campbell’s signature and they are ready to battle with both Millwall and Luton to sign the midfielder.

It could come down to how well the Tangerines perform in the play-offs with them likely to need to be in the Championship next term to make this one happen.

The Verdict

Campbell is a player that is not going to be short of options when deciding on his next destination in the summer. The 22-year-old has a massive decision to make regarding which club he feels would be the right one for him to move and he needs to get it right so that he continues on the course of his impressive development in recent years.

Blackpool have a manager in Neil Critchley who can get the very best out of players with Campbell’s potential and he has proven his ability as a coach at Liverpool and now with the Tangerines. That has to make Bloomfield Road an attractive potential destination for players like Campbell. However, if they remain in League One it will be difficult you feel to make this one happen.

Millwall and Luton are two clubs heading in the right direction and both of them finished inside the top half of the Championship this term. Campbell would be facing a tough decision between those two clubs in terms of who it would be best to join this summer. It is going to be interesting to see where the 22-year-old ends up.

Linked with another wide man like Lavery (who also has Everton links) and Gilliead (at Scunthorpe):

Josh Bowler wants to quit Everton and kickstart career, Blackpool and Lincoln interested

Blackpool and Lincoln are interested in signing Josh Bowler in the summer with the attacker set to quit Everton, according to Football League World.

The football news website claims Bowler, 22, is at a point where he wants to move away from Goodison Park and “kickstart his career” elsewhere.

Blackpool and Lincoln, who are currently doing well in the League One play-offs, could promise Bowler Championship football next season as they aim to sign the former QPR winger, who’s never made a senior appearance for Everton.

Fresh start

Bowler’s career at Everton has simply failed to come alive so it seems only natural for the winger to bid farewell to Goodison Park and move on this summer.

When he arrived from QPR in 2017, we all thought the Blues had made a good signing.

He’d made his Championship debut for the London club when he was 18-years-old and, as reported by Sky Sports, the Toffees spent £4.25million on acquiring him.

However, that money now looks set to be flushed down the drain with Blackpool and Lincoln chomping at the bit to sign the “highly-rated” winger on a free transfer.

Whoever sanctioned that kind of spend on Bowler clearly made the wrong call and it’s something that the Everton ownership should look into.

However, it’s been four years since that deal was agreed and it’s likely that the club has already learned it’s lessons by now.

Unfortunately, the club won’t get the money back for Bowler but the least they can do is do right by the footballer and allow him to move on and choose his next destination.

Good luck, Josh.

I can't find much info on the dates for this year's summer transfer window.

I don't think the EFL have decided the starting and finishing dates yet.

On a different note, I saw the start of the ELF season is scheduled for 7th August.

There's not even much on any of the other leagues' windows but I found an article by the Athletic which says the prem have confirmed their transfer window from June 9th until 11pm 31st August.

Any Newcastle talk is pie-in-the sky decoy stuff. Jospeh's not ready for them by a long chalk.

Expensive, but if we flog Yates it'll only be for top dollar and will be able to reinvest:

Newcastle United have discussed deal for Wigan Athletic’s Kyle Joseph

Newcastle United have discussed a deal for Wigan Athletic’s Kyle Joseph, as per a report by the Daily Mail.

Newcastle United could look to hand the youngster a Premier League move this summer.

Joseph, who is 19 years old, is out of contract at the end of next month and Wigan are facing a battle to keep him.

He was the subject of a rejected bid by Barnsley in the January transfer window, as per a report by Wigan Today, whilst journalist Alan Nixon suggested that League One side Blackpool were interested.

oseph joined Wigan’s academy at the age of 13 and has risen up through their youth ranks. He has broken into their senior side this past season and scored five goals in 16 games in all competitions.

This past campaign provided him with an opportunity to get some senior experience under his belt in the EFL.

Joseph is being tipped for a bright future in the game and it is no surprise to see Newcastle linked with him.

The Toon Army have a big summer ahead of them as Steve Bruce gears up for his third season at the helm.

Joseph would be a good long-term option for the North East club if they were able to land him.

Barnsley and Blackpool were linked this past winter but it is yet to be known whether either still have an interest.

Old Nixon tweets (All from the January window) about 'Pool (amongst others) expressing an interest in Joseph:

All very speculative but in another tweet Nixon suggests that a 'high price' for Joseph would be £500k - guaranteed to get him. Chicken feed - we could mitigate a punt and get 2 or 3 like Joseph in the event that we sell Yates at a price of, for example, £8m.

A very good player IMO who can receive and keep the ball in the tightest of circumstances. He'll only get better, too:

Sunderland transfer rumour: Blackpool keen on 22-y/o who’s ‘unlikely’ to extend stay with Black Cats

Sunderland’s Elliot Embleton has spent the season half of the season on loan with Blackpool, who are keen on a permanent deal for the 22-year—old, reports The Sun on Sunday (30.05.21, pg. 59).

Sunderland remain in League One going into next season whereas Blackpool travel to Wembley today, to face Lincoln City in the League One play-off final.

One of the Tangerines’ top performers in the second half of this season is Embleton. The Black Cats youngster joined on loan midway through the campaign and has since made 20 League One appearances and scored two goals.

He’s now in the last year of his Sunderland contract and Alan Nixon writes that the Englishman is ‘unlikely to extend his stay’ with them.

Blackpool are now keen on a permanent deal and should they clinch promotion today then their chances to making that happen will ‘soar, as per Nixon’s report.

Surely pie in the sky with a loan being the best we could expect. However, this would be a huge signing if it ever came off and would put a marker down as to our intentions for next season:

Ellis Simms drops big hint he may leave Everton on Sky Sports

Everton loanee Ellis Simms has dropped a big hint that he may leave Goodison Park once again in the summer ahead of next season.

The attacker, currently on loan at Blackpool, missed out on the play-off final victory against Lincoln on Sunday with an injury picked up in the final session.

Simms will now return to Goodison Park ahead of pre-season next month and look to prove himself to Carlo Ancelotti.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Blackpool sealed the victory and reached the Championship, Simms dropped a hint he may be on the move.

“I’m not sure what the future holds,” he said.

“Who knows what the future will bring?”

Elsewhere.

We expect Simms to be out on loan again next season.

The young striker could even return to Blackpool after their promotion to the Championship, as he goes up a level once again under Neil Critchley.

Ancelotti could be looking to bring in another forward, depending on the future of Moise Kean, as he could only have Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison again.

Simms could have been that impact substitute, especially with his pace and power off the bench, it could be a real weapon.

The striker didn’t seem confident on his future, though, and that could be the first major hint that he expects to be away from Merseyside yet again.

First priority will be to recover from this injury, and then he can resolve his transfer activity with anything possible at this stage.

Interesting comments here about Ancelotti favouring experience and not likely to give Simms a first team opportunity .... another season at Bloomfield Road ....... 1 year left on contrat ....... admires Critchley. It all depends on what Everton decide:

Ellis Simms asks Everton transfer question after TV admission

Ellis Simms has one year remaining on his Everton contract

“I’m not sure what the future holds," Ellis Simms told Sky Sports after Blackpool won the League One play-off final on Sunday.

"Who knows what the future will bring?”

Simms will be a man in demand this summer.

Despite missing the final through injury - cruelly suffered practising penalties in training on the eve of the game at Wembley - his 10 goals in 22 appearances since joining Blackpool on-loan in January have quickly proven his credentials at senior level.

The 20-year-old, who joined Everton after leaving Manchester City at 16, scored prolifically at youth level before notching 18 times in 31 appearances over two seasons for David Unsworth and the under-23s.

But his continued progression at Blackpool has given Everton - and director of football Marcel Brands - a decision to make with only 12 months remaining on his contract.

Everton have had mixed fortune while sending prospects out on loan under Brands but Critchley trusts Simms and would be able to offer him further game-time in the Championship next term.

Simms' admission suggests he is open to a further move yet Everton would need to agree a new deal to avoid the risk of losing the prospect on a free transfer.

But his televised comments did not reflect someone desperate to return to his parent club. And why should he be?

There will be ample interest in his services and Everton could even field permanent interest after his goals and performances in League One.

Yet the Oldham-born forward has spoken publicly of his admiration for Blackpool manager Neil Critchley and would surely be keen to continue with the Seasiders in the Championship after playing such a vital role in their promotion push.

Everton are looking to strengthen their attacking options this summer and despite uncertainty around the future of Moise Kean, it seems unlikely Carlo Ancelotti - who favoured experience last term - would hand a first-team role to Simms at this stage.

Blackpool lost just three of 28 League One games following the arrival of Simms in January and another season at Bloomfield Road would be mutually beneficial for both Simms and Everton.

Simms formed an exciting partnership with striker Jerry Yates at Blackpool and started 11 of the final 13 games of the campaign before injury struck ahead of Wembley.

A new contract and a loan in the Championship - at Blackpool or beyond - makes perfect sense for player and club.

But who knows what the future will bring?

There are a few articles this evening about Embleton. Sunderland are really bad at this game, they obviously willing to move him on but are trying to squeeze us for a transfer fee before his contract runs out (1 year left on contract):

What does the future hold for Sunderland’s Elliot Embleton following Blackpool promotion?

Elliot Embleton is arguably the biggest surprise package in League One this term.

After spending a frustrating first half of the season with Sunderland, the midfielder went into the January transfer window knowing that his campaign was at risk of petering out.

With first team opportunities likely to be limited under Lee Johnson, the decision was made to allow him to head out on loan to Blackpool in order to gain more regular first team activity.

What a move that’s proved to be.

Since moving to the Tangerines the 22-year-old has made 21 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and creating four more for his teammates.

Crucially, Embleton really came to life as Blackpool took on the play-offs and came out victorious.

A goal in the semi-finals against Oxford United played a key role in helping them to the final, while the midfielder also managed to provide an assist in Blackpool’s 2-1 play-off final victory over Lincoln City.

With Neil Critchley’s side now gearing up for life in the Championship it means that Elliot Embleton has some big decisions to make.

The original target will surely have been for the midfielder to come back to Sunderland and challenge for a spot in the first team, but after impressing for Blackpool there’s now a very real chance that he could be lined up for a move to the second tier.

Lee Johnson will surely be tempted to give the player a chance in his new-look side this summer, but if Blackpool come knocking with a financial offer then there’s every chance that the Black Cats could look to cash in and allow Embleton to challenge himself in the Championship — something that few would have expected him to do without the supporting Sunderland cast.
