Rotherham and Lincoln continue to monitor 7-goal forward as Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool also circle

Rotherham United and Lincoln City both sent scouts to watch Notts County forward Ruben Rodrigues in action for the National League side against Rochdale in the FA Cup on Tuesday night, according to Nottinghamshire Live.

Rodrigues has emerged on the radar of numerous clubs this season following his impressive form for Notts County in the National League this term.

The 25-year-old has managed to fire home seven goals in his 15 league appearances this term to date and that has played a major role in establishing them amongst the teams chasing automatic promotion to the Football League.

It has already been reported that both League One dup Rotherham and Lincoln are interested in making a potential move for Rodrigues ahead of the January transfer window. While there has also been reports that Championship Blackpool are also one of the other teams that are keeping a watchful eye over the forward’s development.

According to the latest report from Nottinghamshire Live, Blackburn Rovers are also potentially interested in Rodrigues and they have also been monitoring his performances for Notts County in the National League this season.

The report from Nottinghamshire Live added that Rotherham and Lincoln have once again sent scouts to watch the forward in action for Notts County. That came with the 25-year-old playing the full 90 minutes as the National League side were beaten 2-1 at home by Rochdale in the FA Cup first round.

The verdict

You would have to say that it is reaching the stage where Notts County are going to do very well to be able to keep hold of Rodrigues during the January transfer window considering that Rotherham and Lincoln are showing such an interest in his performances at the moment.
Rodrigues looks the sort of player that has the quality to progress beyond the National League and make an impact in the Football League.

Rotherham and Lincoln will both be searching for that extra bit of quality in the winter window to help them push for automatic promotion and the play-offs respectively and the 25-year-old might be someone that can come in and help them achieve that.

Blackpool and Blackburn are also very attractive potential destinations for Rodrigues given that they could offer him the chance to leap up to Championship level. However, whether he is ready to take that big of a step up remains to be seen and it will be interesting to see if either of the Lancashire clubs firm up their interest.

Thorniley obviously a pawn in the chase for Brannagan.

Player set for Blackpool return

Blackpool are set to add another body to their squad this month but it won’t be an unfamiliar one, with Jordan Thorniley set to return to the club from Oxford as reported by LancsLive.

He’s played just 21 times for Blackpool in the league during his career and even though the majority of those appearances came in their promotion-winning campaign last year, he has been allowed to leave the club on loan this term.

It’s meant that he has been back in the third tier since the summer, plying his trade for Oxford. With the League One club, he has managed to help them get towards the play-off places and has featured rather regularly for Karl Robinson’s team.

However, even though they have fared without him up to this point, it looks like his time at Oxford might be coming to an end soon. That’s because Blackpool have the option to cancel his season-long loan deal this month — and according to LancsLive, they plan to do just that before the window closes.

This could be just a bargaining tool by the Seasiders though, as they remain keen to sign Cameron Brannagan from the third tier outfit. By bringing back one of their most important players, it could convince them to do business as part of a deal that would see Thorniley go back to the League One team.

It may work in their favour too, as Oxford won’t want to lose the defender midway through a play-off campaign — although they also won’t want to lose Brannagan.

They may be resigned to losing at least one of them then — and they’ll have to choose which one.

The Verdict

Jordan Thorniley has certainly played more for Oxford this year than he probably would have managed for Blackpool.

He’s looked solid back in League One and he can certainly be a top defender at that level, as he has proved in both this season and the last one. The Seasiders could potentially use him upon recalling him, as there is no reason why he couldn’t do a decent enough job a division higher.

However, it seems as though it might just be a move to try and convince Oxford to part ways with their real target of Brannagan. The midfielder is a real talent and Blackpool landing him would be a great move — even if it means losing Thorniley.

The defender though is clearly not in their plans too much, as they were willing to let him leave on loan in the first place. If letting go of him means bringing in Brannagan, then it appears to be a sacrifice they are willing to make — and this could be the first part of the plan in trying to secure him.

Also being trported that Kirk is a possible replacement.

Get the engine warmed up?:

Demetri Mitchell on Hibs transfer radar as former Hearts star lined up ahead of Martin Boyle exit

The former Manchester United kid spent time on loan at Tynecastle and is attracting interest from Easter Road.

Hibs want Blackpool wide player Demetri Mitchell as Martin Boyle prepares to leave the club.

The Easter Road club are interested in the former Hearts loanee with their talisman on the brink of joining Saudi side Al-Faisaly.

Shaun Maloney wants to bring in another left-sided player and Mitchell is firmly on his radar.

The ex-Manchester United youngster can play as a full-back or as a wide midfielder.

Hibs are prepared to offer him the security of a two-and-a-half year to try and entice him north.

The 25-year-old is going into the final few months of his contract although the Tangerines have an option to extend his deal by another season.

It comes as Australian Boyle could leave the club within the next 48 hours.

He was left out of the Scottish Cup clash with Cove Rangers with Maloney admitting there had been developments over a deal.

He told Hibs TV: "I think there's been progression within that situation.

"Martin has been very professional, we've both been very clear and now we're at a stage where it has progressed.

"I had to make a decision that was best for the team and for Martin, really.

"In the next 24 hours we might have more to say, but that's where we're at."

Yet another central midfielder we're being linked to:

Sources: Blackpool, Sunderland and Barnsley among clubs keen on Stoke City player

A number of clubs are keen on Stoke City youngster Tashan Oakley-Boothe this January transfer window with him potentially available for a loan transfer, Football League World has been told.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined the Potters from Tottenham and has made a handful of appearances since, with him showing good quality and potential.

However, what he needs is to be playing football regularly to really start developing and understanding the game, and that is where a loan deal could come in.

Football League World has been told that there is a good chance the youngster will be allowed to leave temporarily this month with a view to him getting more senior minutes, and a number of EFL sides are keen.

Sky Bet Championship pair Blackpool and Barnsley are in the mix, as are Sky Bet League One promotion hopefuls Sunderland and fellow third-tier side Burton Albion.

Clearly, there’s no shortage of options potentially available to Oakley-Boothe ahead of the final week of the transfer window, and it just remains to be seen what he and Stoke think could be the best route to go down.

Getting such a transfer right is important to a player’s development, and that will be at the forefront of the Potters’ minds.

OK, granted, we're in the market for at least one central midfielder but the number of them we're being linked to is getting silly.

It's got to be a case of agents / media exaggerating and whipping up something out of nothing.

Blackpool winger Demetri Mitchell has medical ahead of Hibernian move

Blackpool’s Demetri Mitchell is closing in on a move to Hibernian, as detailed in a report by the Blackpool Gazette.

Blackpool left him out of the squad in their Championship fixture against Millwall over the weekend.

https://the72.co.uk/260649/blackpool-winger-demetri-mitchell-has-medical-ahead-o

Mitchell, 25, travelled to Edinburgh on Friday to finalise his transfer and have a medical.

The Blackpool Gazette reports that the deal is expected to go through as the wait for official confirmation ensues.

Blackpool situation

Mitchell is out of contract at Bloomfield Road at the end of the season and is poised to move on now six months early.

The winger joined the Seasiders in 2020 from Manchester United and made 39 appearances for Neil Critchley’s side in all competitions last term to help them gain promotion from League One.

He has since featured 14 times during the first-half of this campaign but has failed to find the net.
Other spells

The former England youth international started out at local side Fletcher Moss Rangers before moving to Old Trafford. He rose up through the academy of the Red Devils and was a regular for them at various youth levels.

He went on to make one senior appearance for the Premier League giants before he was loaned out to Hearts twice to get some experience under his belt.

Back to Edinburgh

Mitchell was a hit during his time in Scotland and is now set to return to Edinburgh this winter to Hibs instead.

They are managed by former Wigan Athletic and Hull City midfielder Shaun Maloney these days after he replaced Jack Ross in the dugout at Easter Road.

It's being reported that we're getting close to signing Charlie Kirk.

This'd be a great signing, even more so as a loan with an option to buy is being talked about.

I'd consider it to be an exciting signing.

Jeando Fuchs: Dundee United midfielder set to join Peterborough United

Dundee United midfielder Jeando Fuchs is set join English Championship side Peterborough United, after the clubs agreed a six-figure fee for the player.

The Cameroon international's contract expires in the summer but United have struck a deal that includes a healthy sell on clause.

The move is expected to be concluded before United's Scottish Premiership trip to face Celtic on Saturday.

Fuchs has made 47 appearances since joining from Alaves in October 2020.

Barry Fry confirms Peterborough United rejected a bid from Blackpool for Oliver Norburn

Blackpool have had a six-figure bid rejected for Peterborough United midfielder Oliver Norburn, it has been confirmed.

Norburn’s family are believed to still live in the North West, but he only moved to Peterborough from Shrewsbury Town in August when signing a three-year deal.

The 29 year-old’s form has been impressive and his leadership skills led to Ferguson making him captain in December.

Posh director of football Barry Fry told our sister paper the Peterborough Telegraph: “Blackpool made a bid, but we turned it down flat.

"We need players like Oliver in our situation.

"Anyway, we only signed him in August after our manager managed to persuade the owners to make it happen and he’s subsequently been made captain.”

The Seasiders have made it their number one priority this month to strengthen in central midfield, where they remain lights on numbers.

But, with the window set to shut at 11pm on Monday night, Neil Critchley's side have still yet to get a deal over the line.

Oxford United man Cameron Brannagan was believed to be their number one target, but the club had a bid rejected for the former Liverpool man and talk of a potential deal has since quietened.

Norburn, meanwhile, has previously represented the likes of Bristol Rovers, Macclesfield Town and Tranmere Rovers.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony was asked about the speculation by a supporter on Twitter earlier today.

"It's true another champ club bid us for a player we signed from L1 last August," he wrote.

"He has been one of our best players since joining and they bid us the same money we paid five months ago. Like I said, silly season!"

Speaking yesterday after Pool sealed the signing of Charlton Athletic winger Charlie Kirk, Pool boss Neil Critchley said the club remained in the market for further additions.

“Every manager or head coach will always tell you they want more. We still want to improve and we’ve got a few days left,” he said.

“There’s been a few outs and a few ins. Would I think that will be the end of it? I can’t guarantee it.

“If I was a betting man, and I’m not, I’d probably say I don’t think the Kirk deal will be the last thing that happens in or out of Blackpool before Monday.”

Ironically, Peterborough have today bolstered their midfield with the signing of Jeando Fuchs from Scottish side Dundee United.

Blackpool were strongly linked with the Cameroonian at the start of the window.
