MATCH REPORT: Wycombe Wanderers draw 2-2 with Blackpool in their League One clash at Bloomfield Road

Wycombe Wanderers were denied their fourth successive League One win as Blackpool equalised with six minutes remaining to record a 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Road.

With the game passing two pitch inspections in the late afternoon, 145 Wycombe fans made the trip up to the north-west to see their side put in another resilient performance.

The Blues made an excellent start as Adebayo Akinfenwa powered in a header from Joe Jacobson's superb corner on 12 minutes.

However, just after the break on 50 minutes, Tangerines defender Ben Heneghan equalised for the hosts when he headed home Jordan Thompson's set-piece.

Just two minutes later, the Chairboys were back in front when Jacobson's expert delivery seemed to evade everyone and sailed into the net.

Unfortunately, the Blues couldn't hold on as on 84 minutes, Paris Cowan-Hall tripped Nya Kirby in the box and Harry Pritchard coolly dispatched the penalty.

It could have been worse for Wanderers but Ryan Allsop made a great save at the death to deny Armand Gnanduillet.

Blackpool 2-2 Wycombe: Harry Pritchard penalty snatches point for Tangerines

Harry Pritchard's late penalty earned Blackpool a 2-2 draw with fellow League One play-off hopefuls Wycombe at Bloomfield Road.

Gareth Ainsworth's Chairboys led with 12 minutes played when Joe Jacobson's corner from the left was met by veteran striker Adebayo Akinfenwa, who powered in a header from close-range into the top corner.

Defender Ben Heneghan equalised for Terry McPhillips' hosts five minutes after half-time, heading in Jordan Thompson's corner past keeper Ryan Allsop from the right to bring the Blackpool level.

But two minutes later, Wycombe were back in-front in bizarre fashion as Jacobson fizzed a low corner in from the right, with the ball beating everyone in the penalty area and squirming under goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi.

Blackpool secured a point after 84 minutes from the penalty spot. Nya Kirby was brought down in the area by Paris Cowan-Hall, with substitute Pritchard converting from 12-yards off the underside of the crossbar.

Both sides are now unbeaten in four games, with Blackpool eighth and Wycombe ninth in the third-tier.

Cheers

The pitch really does look like a throwback to the 80's.

Forgot what a big unit Akinfenwa is.

‘Where there is harmony, may we bring discord. Where there is truth, may we bring error. Where there is faith, may we bring doubt. And where there is hope, may we bring despair’

Ooops, two post match threads.

Here's the other one

The Good.

Kirby looked a handful, very skillful and keen as mustard. Sorensen never really had the space to do anything - due to how deep Wycombe sat in the 2nd half - but remained comfortable and composed throughout which is more than can be said for some of our seasoned pros. Feeney was particularly poor.

I'd start with both Kirby and Sorensen at Stanley but McPhilips seems to have his favourites and remains loyal to some players for too long imho. We were very poor in the first half which when you consider we were dire against Shrewsbury and 1st half vs Coventry, I was wondering what the loan lads have to do to get some game time.

We were good for all three points in the end but couldn't quite find a way through for that third goal.

The Bad.

The pitch is appalling. We struggled first half, more down to a fear of slipping than actual; though there was plenty of that as well. Same players, same pitch were much more fluid 2nd half and were zipping it about nicely. The officials were also very poor but nothing new there.

We went one down to a free header in the six-yard box from probably the least agile player in the entire football league.

The Ugly.

What a horrible side Wycombe are. I have never seen a team use time-wasting as a tactic from the get-go. They are short-changing their fans if that's how they set up every week. The ref booked their keeper for it but was never gonna dish out the 2nd for the same offence. Urgh.

Very, Very low attendance.
