Hamer - how was his debut?
at 14:44 9 Nov 2025

2nd save to his left a number of keepers would not make (Seny!) what I really liked is that he came he caught or he punched and clattered everyone on the way through. There was one moment where they stuck in a cross deep to the back post and he came and got enough of a punch to push that away from the strikers head. We conceded that same position as a goal twice last week against Ipswich

Hamer Post Match - didn't know new rule
at 14:40 9 Nov 2025

tbs I did not know the rule until Wednesday when it was the first time Ive seen it implemented and then again today. Seen plenty of games this season when the ball has been in the keepers hands longer than that so maybe this some form of crack down

It's amazing how much better our players get when they are not in the team.

Saito has been off the boil since his Japan debut where he performed poorly, Smyth you could have argued for on the right instead of Vale, but Vale more likely to give you an assist. No issues from me for selection

Didn't think it was too bad, got into good positions and made poor choices Burrell took a shot when he had two open for the cross. Confident team does better. Hamer did very well, Field was excellent. Kone is really struggling even when he is in the box, and frankly that's not surprising given he was non league 2 years ago, Championship is a step up and he needs to learn to find himself space. Clean sheet is basis to build on. Like everyone else I would rather see Kolli than Frey. Mbengue looks much better at right back.

Think Chair has done a decent job defensively and moved the ball quickly when attacking, no complaints from me today so far

Dont think that's been. too bad tbh, we've gotten in down their right on a number of times, Field doing well at LB Mbegue until he nearly got sent off in slow motion has been decent at right back. Hamer coming for crosses and a couple of good punches. First 30 minutes the real Varane turned up still seem to struggle with that straight ball over the top though

They Couldn't Wait Until Wednesday 10pm To Sack Him - QPR Vs Southampton Thread
at 22:36 5 Nov 2025

Well that was frustrating! We can’t win games carrying 3 or 4 5/10 or worse players every game. Really poor from Varane again, both goals he has failed to bust a gut to cover for his defence.

If someone can tell me where Smyth was supposed to be playing I would love to know. First half 5 yards off everything far too deep at times or he would then push into an inside right position.

Dunne is half the player he was last season

Morrison is really struggling and Nardi is a wreck and it’s impacting the defence who are having to come deeper.

Stephan has now learnt the 3 midgets behind the striker won’t work especially if none of them will get into the box.

I don’t like Chair at 10 never have he is far more effective on the left.

I don’t know who this set piece coach is but they need firing both offensive and defensive are terrible, we are easily blocked and it does not matter who the taker is.

I don’t think the number of changes are helping either.

As it’s November it when Sam Field usually finally gets going and I think he has to come in and provide some protection.

RND, Burrell and Dembele’s cameo the main positives today. If that’s what we get from dropping Dembele from the squad then I think a few others would benefit from this starting with Varane

Just watched both those goals back and I'm not so sure, the first one yes he's beaten for pace down to the byline something we've seen Smyth do many times I dont see Norrington Davies do much differently there, its a great ball in as well, you could argue Morrison should do better

The second one Chairs gone very high in the press with Madsen, Kone and Burrell all up there and he's been left exposed 3 on one on the left hand side he could have gone in earlier maybe, if he holds position or turns around he still gets beaten. Hayden with Madsen pressing has to be coming to cover the left Cook needs to block the cross and Dunne who is ball watching and come too far across centrally has to do better to win that header

The team for Wednesday I imagine was picked before yesterday’s game…
at 11:51 2 Nov 2025

I honestly thought it was tactics rather than election yesterday we picked a team that looked suited to sitting in a mid block and breaking but pressed very high including Hayden and the press was broken with ease by Ipswich which left the back four regularly exposed.

As I said on another thread its a delicate balance to get right between familiarity and building of partnerships (essential in 4-4-2), keeping standards and playing in form players and dropping those whose standards have slipped, and having the right players for the opponent.

Let's look at Derby, end of three game week, we looked very leggy and lacked intensity. Mbengue had a terrible game at centre back and was dominated in the air. Varane was also very poor. Derby sat deep we created nothing and Kone looked shattered as he has done for the last week. Nardi costs us a goal

Go into Ipswich two of poorest performers dropped, but their replacements (Hayden and Morrison) turn in pretty poor performances. Ipswich had a big number 9 who dominated Morrison anyway.

The decsion to put Esquerdinha up against the championships record £17.5m signing then ask him to be the attacking outlet on the left and give very little cover seems suicidal as does the pushing of Hayden so high when they have one of the divisions better 10s in Nunez.

So I would argue that have you to pick your team for the opponent especially against the better sides and we just got that very wrong yesterday

I dont have issues with the manager but he got it all wrong today. Dont have issues with the line up but tactically the way we tried to press them was off from the beginning, Ipswich are exactly the team to you want to sit in mid block and play on the break, the high press and with Hayden so high was bypassed time and again leaving our rather poor defence very exposed

This and given how their 9 dominated Morrison in the air it was not going to be any better on that front and he still managed to get a yellow card. when he came on for stupid tackle in the middle of the pitch. Dont get Mbengue myself yes he has pace but scares the b'jesus out of me

The kids had a handful of appearances in the top flight in Brazil and a handful in championship, he had a poor game today but his role today was to be an attacking full back so Chair could cut in and overload. He's had some decent games and a poor one today but even the mistakes he made today should not have led to a goal if the rest of the team was doing their jobs properly. Lets hope he learns from today and for me its on the manager as this was not the game to play him

I thought today was very much on him, tactically it was wrong, the press was wrong and we were wide open and overrun at times. Dont get me I'm wrong I like him and managers will make mistakes just as players do

I dont buy this sorry. It may or may not be true but heard he had indicated his family were not settled in the UK.

He had a poor second half of the season last year, IMHO and he has cost us goals two games in a row now.

Keeper has to be number one priority for January unless there is some kind of turnaround

Ipswich Reflection
at 19:11 1 Nov 2025

Look it was fairly even in the end first half I thought we went in on the up, but really poor second half. I'm sorry but we have to be looking for a new keeper in January.

I think Stephan has to be accountable, our tactics and selection lost it today ( I kind of got why with Chair cutting in we would play Esquerdinha because the kid can cross and can attack but if you are going to commit there then the rest of the team has to cover and the kid has been hung out to dry there. Ipswich are not the team to press and we overcommitted with the press for them to go long over the top where their centre forward had the beating of Morrison every time and they were 4 v 3 There was so much space.

And if anyone can tell me where Hayden was supposed to be playing I would love to know because it seemed like poor Madsen was on his own in there with Haydn far to far forward and providing zero protection to the defence. Can only think this was tactical.

Also starting to worry about Kone, anyone that makes Frey look quick is virtually going backwards. Dont know what is going on there but if he is not fit then we need to take him out. But a shadow of the player a month ago.

We've now hit a spell where we have significant drop off in form with some players. I'm stuck in two minds about this. If you are playing 4-4-2 it's all about playing partnerships, a brand new one down the left today, one that's not played much together in the middle and it showed. However I want players to be held to account for standards, and performances like those from Morrison, Hayden, Esquerdinha and Kone should not be tolerated and should be replaced by those waiting for their chance next game

Worst Comedian
at 11:01 1 Nov 2025

I'm the polar opposite love it and especially when you get to see good people in a small room. Comedy is so subjective and you get what you bring to it, but its an amazing art form which requires real intelligence to get right which is why so many either go on to be actors or writers (both books and scripts / screenplays)

Went to Crack comedy in Kingston last night first time in a while,

First up was the legendary Mark Thomas with his left wing "activist" set more shouty than I would have expected brilliant joke about migrants and golfers (did you know in this country more land is taken up by golf courses than houses!)

2 shorter slots in the middle for the new comedians first one was a German woman Julia Eckhoff who was a bit hit and miss the second one a guy called Luke Chilton who tore the place down (love it when you see someone and you just know they are going to go on) Final act was a gay autistic music comedian called Robert White who was chaotic awkward and absolutely genius with genius improv and brought the house down.

I've seen. big names who one time have been brilliant another time have died. And then you get the surprises. I went to Latitude this year the festival which is music and comedy with huge names in the comedy area. The two best acts of the festival were surprising (giving the line up) Kerry Godliman's set on becoming a menapousal woman, but the stand out was Paul Sinha (yes him of the chase) who brought the only standing ovation of the festival with his set on being gay asian and being diagnosed with Parkinsons which was the funniest thing I've heard in years

The Kone Kon-undrum
at 20:31 27 Oct 2025

Confidence and fitness. Plus he is getting maybe one chance a game. It's been a meteoric rise, opposition will now have videos and plans to deal with him, puts that header away last night and we are talking how amazing he manages to pop up and save the game. But we have to be careful about overplaying and I dont think he's got another 3 game week in him

Field at left back
at 19:48 25 Oct 2025

I'd rather see Field at LCB and Mbengue at Right Back tbh Esquedinha is an attacking full back who can cross and could have done with him today. Mbengue was a total liability at CB today his pace gets him out of trouble like the personality and impact but I think Field is actually a better centre back and its not even his main position
