Players talking with hands over their mouths?
at 08:01 18 Nov 2025

It says a lot about today’s footballers that not one of them has thought of taking the piss by doing an after match televised interview with his hand permanently over his mouth whilst every word is heard on the mic.

Shame the Fast Show isn’t still around.

Aside of Madsen I’m struggling to think of any player who was here last season playing better this season.

I’m not convinced he has really changed the set up. It’s still 4 back, 2 centre mid, one up front and three behind though I’d grant you, Kone makes it a two up top at times, but still looks a very similar set up, crap passing out from the back, dispossess the ‘three’ and we’re in big trouble etc etc.

Think the players are starting to accept the formula doesn’t work long term and are losing belief in it.

Footballs changing and once again we may find ourselves behind the curve.

Not really. Once they expanded the World Cup to 32 teams there weren’t enough good European teams to make each of any of the qualifying leagues competitive.

It’s reduced my interest in any World Cup from 2 years to about 2 weeks as even the open round leagues will be yet another walkover to the knock out stage.

Couldn’t tell you who’s in the England team, single interest at the moment is getting Jimmy to the finals.

It’s mystifying.

In over 60 years of watching the game the only memorable thing I’ve ever heard a footballer say was when Peter Crouch was asked what he’d be if he wasn’t a footballer.

Back in 1969 I think, the country was snowbound at the end of this month and about the only game to go ahead was us at Bolton.

Terrible conditions and we lost 6-4!

The longer we live, the greater the probability they’ll get us into dementia homes and take all our money off us.

Blackburn away
at 13:30 12 Nov 2025

Trying to imagine what a cold winters night in Blackburn would be like.

I think I’d wear a balaclava, back to front, to and from the ground so I wouldn’t have to witness the surroundings. Better still, if it had no street lights, I could wear my balaclava the right way round and still never witness the local delights.

Is it on the telly?

Expectations for the rest of the season
at 09:15 11 Nov 2025

As long as we try to play a style of football we’re largely incapable of carrying out then we’ll be flirting with the wrong end of the table.

Back four and centre mid two aren’t any good at playing out from the back. On the rare occasions they manage to shuffle the ball into the other half without being dispossessed, the midgets will be heavily marked and subsequently bustled off the ball. Burrell or whoever drew the centre forward short straw, will run around gasping for air and subsequently startled if presented with a scoring chance. The fella has risen above that so far, with the rare opportunities he’s given, but the poor sod will eventually weaken from the paucity of active involvement.

Until we bin all this, play a regular back four and midfield three primarily versed in defending our own goal whilst a front ‘any three from about ten’ go through the tombola until we come up with a trio who can create and score goals without the constant mindset of having to defend the midfield two from their deficiencies, it’ll just be more of the same.

But you’re still missing the point.

If there’s a right leaning privately funded news channel then good luck to them.
Equally if there’s a left leaning privately funded news channel then good luck to them too.

But if you’re a publicly funded news channel, run by the state, irrespective of whichever party is in power, then you are duty bound to be impartial.

You seem an intelligent fella, but it’s bizarre that you can’t grasp this concept. It’s quite sad if you’re looking at this issue purely from a political standpoint.

I’m just asking you to acknowledge and show a sense of fair play otherwise we really are on the road to hell.

The thing is, the BBC portrays itself as a neutral non propaganda broadcaster. It’s state operated, public financed and consequently is duty bound to adhere to those principals. It clearly hasn’t.

Put aside your politics for a moment, surely you can see this is totally unacceptable.

The billionaire’s propaganda channel is a completely separate animal. It’s privately financed and if you don’t like it, you can stop paying for it, if it’s free to air you can walk away from it. Due to the licence fee it is virtually impossible to walk away from the BBC in one form or another.

Notice lots of calls for various members of the aforementioned in the Manager thread so I thought I’d have a look at the assists.

One assist all season between the lot of them. Yep, you read that right, one whole assist.

That’s one less than our somewhat unfairly criticised captain, fill in right back, occasional centre half and all round clearer off the line, Jimmy Dunne.

It’s fckin rank. And you honestly think they’re the solution?!

The canals of Milan really are a treat.

I’ll be taking a similar approach this afternoon, doing my utmost to avoid proceedings, but keeping fingers crossed that when I do succumb to the mobile I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Those last two games has taken its toll.

True, especially for the hard core away supporters.

Hull is outside my 100 mile exclusion zone and if I’m honest, if Hull was at the back of my garden, I’d pull the curtains.

The only way we can fit Dembele in the team is if we play three stoppers across central midfield.

Think we should go any three from four but preferably Field, Morgan and one other from Hayden/Varane.

We’ve got to stop conceding goals and try and snatch some 1-0 wins. Warnock made a living by grinding out the first 65 minutes and personally enjoy that far more than tippy tappy football that goes nowhere.
