Town, Hull City, Bristol City, Barnsley and Brighton are all pondering a move for Southend midfielder Anthony Grant, according to a report this afternoon. As mentioned in last night’s match report, the Blues showed interest in the 24-year-old Shrimper last season, having been frequent visitors to Roots Hall with youngster Kane Ferdinand the initial subject of their attention.

Londoner Grant came through the ranks at Chelsea where he made only one first team sub appearance. While employed at Stamford Bridge the 5ft 9in tall midfielder spent time on loan at Oldham, Wycombe, Luton and Southend, before moving to the Essex club on a permanent basis on a free transfer in August 2008.

Town made an enquiry regarding the former England U16, U17 and U19 international last season, according to the local Southend press.

Grant, who made 45 starts and two sub appearances in 2010/11, scoring two goals, has one year left on his contract at Roots Hall and the League Two club would almost certainly have to listen to any offers which might be forthcoming,
