Butler - We Can Get Stronger

Butler: We Can Get Stronger and Stronger

Tom Butler has declared that Swansea City can get stronger and stronger as they enjoy the spotlight that topping a division brings.

Butler has been a revelation in recent weeks with his performances and he will become very hard to dislodge from the side at the moment following his, and the team's recent displays. Nine goals in their last two road trips have propelled the Swans to the top of the pile - a place they look to hold when Hartlepool visit the Liberty on Saturday.

"There are a lot of teams that aren't far behind us," Butler told BBC Sport.

"It's nice psychologically to see us on top - but you can't get ahead of yourself at this stage of the season."

"If we can cut out some errors, I think we can get stronger and stronger

"We've got some really good players who are out injured at the moment, that can only add to the strength of the squad when they return.

"It's looking good, but at the same time you can't be complacent as there are a lot of other good teams in the league.

"Orient was a big win as they've done quite well, but I thought Doncaster were probably the best team we've played."

The Swans have recovered this season from the blow that saw chief talisman and leading scorer for four seasons, Lee Trundle, leave the Liberty in the summer in a £1m move to Bristol City.

"Lee was a great player for Swansea, but a team in a higher division came looking for him and he wanted to progress his career," Butler said.

"Players come and go - that's part and parcel of football, but we've got some replacements in who have done really well, as have the Spanish lads the manager brought in.

"I think we've got the right blend of players this year as we've got a lot of players who are still in their mid-20s, but have a lot of experience at different clubs.

"We've also got a couple of younger lads in there, but Garry Monk and Dennis Lawrence at the back have a lot of experience and the back four haven't conceded many goals.

"The manager also brings lot of confidence to the team - he's very positive, he's not defensive at all, and he tells the attacking players to go out and express ourselves.

"All we can do is keep going out and doing what we're doing,

"We're the only people who can mess it up - we believe we can beat any team, but if we make the errors on the pitch, it's down to us.

"But if we go out like we have in the last couple of games, and get the players back from injury, we should have a really good chance.">
