The Brighton Post-Mortem

"You can't fault many of the players for effort, and at Brighton they defended the edge of our box as though their lives depended upon it. The main problem was that they didn't actually do anything else of note. We missed the best chance of the match, but it was just about our only one and we didn't threaten to create any more. Our passing was poor, Miller could not make the ball stick and Delfouneso was a luxury we could ill afford. Midfield, as a creative force, were practically non-existent. On the plus side, the back five were very good, well organised and rode their luck on the rare occasions it was needed. "

The thoughts of BasilRobbieReborn on an afternoon at the AMEX that arguably yielded more than most had predicted. "Huffed, puffed, fluffed and duffed." said Curryman who went on to comment "Some poor decisions on substitutes by Riga, from his limited bench. We need to be putting teams like Brighton to the sword, as they were no great shakes but we seem to be incapable of doing any harm to any team, good or bad. If you're so intent on backing your manager KO, let's have some decent loans in to bolster our team up. All that aside, I would have settled for a draw before the game."

HertfordSeasider made the observation "Heroic defending, not much else. Lots of yellow cards and injuries to boot. We need 4 players of creativity and pace as well as Orlandi, mellis and Cubero. Some strange tactics but then he is playing a loaded deck, same as Ince and Fergie before him. It is a worry." With the final say going to Famous Grouse who said "When you are creating so little from open play it is vital that we are able to put opponents under pressure from any "dead Ball" situations. From what I have seen this season we do not have a specialist for the task. Can you remember when we last had appositive shot on target from a corner or free kick? Today Lundstrom had at least 4 free kicks in the attacking quarter and failed to clear the first man on all occasions. He, McMahon and Perkins (occasionally) seem to have taken on the responsibility with little to show for it. Surely this is something which can be improved on the practice ground or can our coach(es) not see this?"

Plenty to work on then for Jose Riga, not least in his attempts to bring in some new blood before Saturday's game against Norwich. The feeling is either we're finally due for a win or a good pasting - one of the two!
