Sadio Mane To Snub Portugese Giants
Tuesday, 7th Apr 2015 11:00

At last some good news about a player being linked with a move out of St Mary's as Sadio Mane is rumoured to be ready to reject overtures from Portugal.

According to the media both Sporting Lisbon and Benfica are ready to try and prise Sadio Mane away from St Mary's in the summer, however reports are saying that Mane is not interested and is happy to stay at Saints next season.

Welcome news for Saints fans given not only that most transfer rumour seems to be saying that certain players are sure to leave the club, but also in that Mane has been out of the side of late with tales of bad timekeeping etc being the reason rather than his general form.

But with three years left on his contract the ball is firmly in Saints court and unlike the likes of Nathan Clyne where they have to sell or risk losing him on a free transfer in 2016, Mane will go nowhere unless the club sees it in its best interest.

Players doing well in the PL do not go to Portugal. Sporting Lisbon and Benfica may be 'giants' but I doubt they can pay as much as us and whereas I could name most of the Spanish, German and even Italian top division teams I wouldn't get beyond about 4 or 5 for Portugal. It is not a big league where big players go.

We need to stay calm about all the millions of rumors. Yes MS and NC are going (some cynics are saying they have already gone in terms of on-field performance) and Toby will not be with us next season either but all the rest is just idle speculation. At least we have some players it is worth making 'credible' rumours up about - and there will be just as many stories about players we are 'interested' in, ready to 'swoop' for etc etc etc. Of our players (other than the above three) Wanyama is the only one I would be worried about losing. To lose him and MS might be a problem. The rest we can live without if they want to go.
