The Retained List
Thursday, 7th May 2015 12:03 by Editor

If the result of the 2015 General Election is uncertain, the Father of Linda Carter's baby in Eastenders is a mystery and the whereabouts of Nile Ranger still keep you awake at night, it's nothing compared to the silence coming out of Bloomfield Road with regards to this season's retained list.

Lee Clark has been a bit of a broken record this season (he needs to have been with the same excuse for 18 games without a win) talking about his commitment to telling the players whether they were staying or going, on the Sunday after the final game. However four days after the decision, fans are still in the dark over which players have breathed a sigh of relief and which have been offered new deals to stay!

You'd have thought on paper that it's a fairly easy decision for the Geordie. Keep Gary Madine and Jamie O'Hara and bin the rest. The likes of Perkins, Parish, McMahon, Mellis, Cykwa and Sene will surely be escorted from the premises - if the Fonz goes then he may need to be directed away from his usual straight line run or he'll end up in the Irish sea.

There are a couple more players Clark may consider offering new deals. No one can accuse Peter Clarke of not caring about the club and he may be decent enough for another season in League One whilst he also may consider Miles Addison a player with enough experience and versatile enough to cover a few roles in the team.

However, it is a chance to get rid of players that we haven't the faintest idea who or what they are. Andre Blackman, Formose Mendy and Joel Dielna may now be pedalling lighters 10 for £1 on Blackpool front for all we know but are three more names on Blackpool's increasingly long list of shame. There was a time that fans knew every member of the squad but this season has been all about loans, losers and louts.

Maybe the retained list hasn't been announced because they've carted them all off in a coach - if Lee Clark is at the wheel and they've been given a one way ticket out of Blackpool then all the better (any chance Charles Dunne could have been on refreshments?).
