Monk Wants More Of The Same Against Newcastle

I think it is fair to say that if we play the same against Newcastle this weekend as we did against Chelsea last then we should walk away from the Liberty on Saturday with the three points that we deserved last weekend.

A 2-2 draw on the opening day of the season was a good result but it was tinged with the disappointment that we could easily have secured the three points with a bit of luck and some better finishing particularly in the first half.

But there is really no negatives from a result like last weekend and it is certainly the positives that Monk is focusing on as he prepares his side for the upcoming game.

It has been a pretty good period for Monk with a good summer of transfer activity behind him and of course that result last weekend but he is ready for the next challenge with the Swans the favourites for the game

"I wanted us to set a standard of performance that we could take into the rest of the season, and I think we achieved that," he said.

"There were plenty of positives to take from the game and its about trying to replicate that now.

"We know it will be difficult because there are always new challenges in this league but it is what we're aiming for.

"We are not getting carried away, however, and there are certainly things we can improve on."
