Doc leaves Valley Parade Thursday, 5th May 2011 08:12 by Paul News has filtered out of Valley Parade that Tommy Doherty has left after having his contract paid up early. Rumours have been rife since Peter Taylor was sacked that Doc refused to play and was on unofficial strike as a protest to the poor treatment of Mr Taylor. Personally, I don't buy into those rumours but when City are skint, and looking to save money where ever they can, it does seem odd that he would be paid to leave early. Doherty joined City as the big summer signing with a decent reputation at this level, and at times he looked a class act, his passing range was way beyond anything we've seen in League Two for years. But he was possibily the slowest player ever to play the game and clearly this had hindered his career. Taylor once stated "if Tommy was an athlete he'd be Premier League". It would be hard to argue against that, but ultimately his time at Valley Parade , which was dogged by injuries and more recently, rumours of unrest, will go down as yet another in a long line of expensive failures.
