Leeds must keep prolific Posh at bay
Leeds must keep prolific Posh at bay

Leeds need to bounce back from the disappointing result in midweek, but we will have to cope with Peterborough United’s prolific forward line. Deputy keeper Paul Rachubka has had the dreaded vote of confidence from Simon Grayson.

Despite the setback on Tuesday, Simon Grayson was sounding pretty upbeat when he spoke to the official site. "We're on a nice unbeaten run at the moment. We were disappointed we didn't beat Coventry on Tuesday, but we're still unbeaten, and we'll look to keep doing what we're doing and hopefully build up some momentum. It's what we do on Saturday and what we do throughout the season that counts.”

Grayson would like to be able to name an unbeaten side, but he waiting to whether players with "a few knocks” manage to recover in time for the game. He’s being a bit of a tease by not telling us which players are struggling to be fit.  One player who is certain to miss the game is Andy Lonergan, who has had surgery on his a fractured finger and is expected to be out for more than a month.

Grayson has stuck up for Lonergan’s deputy Paul Rachubka, and insisted that the reserve keeper’s late error against Coventry wasn’t solely responsible for our failure to beat Coventry. “He is a strong character and he’ll carry on. He is a good experienced lad and he is a more than capable goalkeeper. We were seconds away from a clean sheet and another victory, which was disappointing because we deserved it.  But we did not pass (the ball) well enough to see it through.”

But Rachubka will need to play well tomorrow, as Peterborough are the joint top scorers in the division at home this season. So far they’ve got 16 goals from 6 games, which including a 7-1 victory over Ipswich.  Two years ago the Posh went straight back down from the Championship, but after winning promotion again last season, they’re coping with this division much better this time round. They are currently in seventh place, just one place above Leeds.

Darren Ferguson is suggesting that this will be their biggest game of the season. He told their official site “Leeds are a massive club and are on a good run in the league. As a manager you want a full house and that is what we will have on Saturday. It should be a fantastic atmosphere, Leeds will bring a large following and I know the players are looking forward to it”. Proof once again that we’re really not famous any more, although while Fergie junior is enjoying the atmosphere he might not want to listen too closely to some of the chants coming from the Leeds end.

This will certainly be a tough game for Leeds, but as long as we defend as well as we have in recent weeks we should come back with at least a point.
