Portsmouth Turn Down Watford Bid for Duo
Portsmouth Turn Down Watford Bid for Duo
Wednesday, 18th Jan 2012 17:34 by TWTD.co.uk

Portsmouth are reported to have turned down a bid for Town targets Joel Ward (pictured) and Jason Pearce from fellow Championship side Watford. Yesterday, TWTD broke the news that the Blues had made offers for the Pompey pair.

A Watford bid for the same two players the Blues are chasing might appear to be a surprising coincidence, particularly with the Hornets not understood to be overly rich, and it may well be a case of mistaken identity with regards to the bidding club.

Portsmouth’s current situation is complicated with their parent company Convers Sports Initiatives in administration, but with Sicilian-American businessman Joseph Cala set to complete a takeover, perhaps before the end of this week.

With the change of ownership so close, it appears unlikely that any decisions will be made on players’ futures at the present time.

However, Cala has already stated his intention to cut the wage bill once his takeover is complete, which may suggest that the Hampshire club may ultimately be willing to accept some offers, although Ward and Pearce are unlikely to be amongst the higher earners.
