Playing For Their Places

Playing For Their Places

All of Jackett's summer signings are expected to take some part in the game with only Lee Trundle and Izzy Iriekpen missing from the squad as Jackett gets the first chance to see how his summer work is shaping up.

Both goalkeeping trialists - Willy Gueret and Simon Rayner are expected to play some part in the game as the search for the replacement for Roger Freestone continues. Jackett is expected to make many changes during the game tomorrow and also tweak his formation and tactics as he ponders his best starting line up for the season opener against Northampton.

As well as this game, Jackett has four matches in Holland and friendlies against both Barry Town and Hereford United to come giving him plenty of chances to make any amendments he needs to the squad and their techniques.

Meanwhile for the hosts Shabir Khan will be given the chance to shine as they continue their new season preparations.

Worcester City player/coach John Snape is set to give the young left back a lengthy run out in the absence of Paul Carty who is still recovering from knee surgery.

City's trio of summer signings - Nick Colley, Christian Moore and Rob Warner - will also be in action thought Warner has been suffering with flu.

Snape is using the friendly at St George's Lane predominantly as a fitness work out but has stressed it's an opportunity for the likes of Khan, James Smith and Dan Parker to press their claims for a place once the real action starts against Hinckley United on Saturday, August 14.

"I'll be looking for Shabir to play a big part in the game," said Snape.

"Dan Parker will also get on at some stage as will some of the other young lads and it's a great chance for the lads to come in and us to have a look at them."
