Roberto Martinez declares the securing of Ferrie Bodde "like signing a £2m player"

Roberto was naturally in happy mood after seeing off Derby County and securing the long term services of a key midfielder to the club.

After it looked all summer as if Ferrie would be sailing away from Swansea, the news yetserday that he had signed a new deal at the club was welcomed by all, not least the player's manager who declared “This was a football decision, not a financial one,”

“And for Swansea City it is like signing a £2m player.

“Let’s be honest, Ferrie could have earned more money at Derby, so he certainly hasn’t taken the money and run.

“His head is pretty clear now and he wants to play football for Swansea City. He wants to develop his own career here and help Swansea push for the Premiership.

“And that is a huge boost because we all know what Ferrie is capable of and now we have extra competition in midfield where we have options for the club to be proud of.”

And with Ferrie now tied to the club for a long term there is increased optimism in Swansea that this season could be a special one.
