Roberto Martinez has hit out at the support shown for Lee Trundle at Ashton Gate last weekend

The Swansea City manager was talking after his sides 0-0 draw at Bristol City for whom Lee Trundle was a second half substitute.

"Trunds is a legend for our football club, but today he was not in our side," he told BBC Sport.

"It was disappointing in a way because... it seems that probably the point didn't count that much."

"Lee will be a [Swans] legend any time.

"But during the game it was a little bit disappointing to see that the fans wanted to appreciate that [Trundle's status with them] when the other players in our squad were fighting extremely hard to earn a point.

"It's important to know that every game at this level for us is a cup final and we need to take it and every point is important.

"Those things don't work like that," added Martinez in response to speculation that Trundle could return.

"Lee Trundle made his decision. He left in a very difficult position just a few days before the first league game.

"After that the players that stayed at Swansea need to receive huge credit because they've taken the club to Championship level and sometimes we are a bit romantic in football and love to look back and speak about these things.

"But I think we need to be realistic. We need to give a lot of credit to the players that stayed at the club and they promoted the football club."
